The garden was originally built in 1593 during the Ming Dynasty and was included in UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997. In its over 400-year history, the garden was changed from hand to hand and was nearly deserted in the 1930s. Thanks to the local government’s great efforts, the garden was restored to its original splendor and we have chance to appreciate its beauty. Then we will head to Shantang Old Street. You will see the ancient residential houses (most of them are from the Late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China), elegant stone bridges spanning across the river, and shops selling handicrafts and local snacks.

One of the must-see sites is Tiger Hill Pagoda, the second leaning tower in the world. It was built during 959 – 961 A.D., more than 200 years earlier than Leaning Tower of Pisa, and started to lean from the Ming Dynasty. Today’s last stop is Suzhou No.1 Silk Factory. The factory was founded in 1926 and has become one of the symbols of 2500-year culture of Suzhou where you can see the process of silk making from silkworm to silk.
