Chongqing East Railway Station – 2026 Guide to Board the Train

With a floor area of about 1.22 million sq m, Chongqing East Railway Station is the largest train station in the world. On June 27, 2025, the station was put into use and it has been the newest train station in Chongqing.

Now, most high-speed trains from this station head to East China and South China, such as Chengdu and Zhangjiajie and a few normal trains run to Guangzhou and Xiamen. Its distance to city center is about 20 km. To get there, metro line 6 has been the main transportation means. Besides, bus lines 100, 102 and 345 and taxis are also available.

Till now, Chongqing East Station mainly operates high-speed trains along Chongqing – Chengdu and the line to Qianjiang with stops at Nanchuan, Wulong, Pengshui, Fuling, etc. In addition, it also has a few normal trains to Guangzhou, Xiamen, etc.

In the following 5 years, it is scheduled to add bullet trains to Kunming, Xian, Guiyang, etc. At that time, departing from the station, you can reach Chengdu and Guiyang in only 1 hour, reach Xian, Changsha, Wuhan and Kunming in 3 hours, and reach Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou in 6 hours.

Chongqing East Station has a total of 7 floors. And it has achieved seamless transfer to urban rail transit, buses, long-distance buses, taxis and online-hailing cars within 5 minutes. The function of each floor is listed below.

Facilities & Services

• Dining: Behind the ticket gate 10B is a 711 convenience store, where you can buy some simple snacks and drinks. After exiting the metro station, take the escalator to the 2^nd floor, you will find a cafe and a few restaurants on the square.
• Charger: Inside the waiting hall, there are 6,500 seats and over 1,000 are equipped with charging ports. Besides, there is a charging pole every few rows of seats, providing both USB interfaces and power sockets.
• Barrier-free facilities: A sufficient number of baby care rooms, barrier-free restrooms, wheelchair accessible passages and elevators are equipped. Its coverage rate has set a record for the highest among hub stations in southwest China.
• Luggage Deposit: The luggage lockers are available at the station hall floor of rail transit line 6. Its cost ranges from CNY 18 – 30/day based on the size of lockers.
• Toilets: You will find the toilet behind the ticket gates, with a drinking water room conveniently located next to them.
• Business-class lounges: Next to ticket gates 4A, 4B, 22A and 22B.
• Air conditioners: In the waiting hall, there are several “Camellia-shaped” air conditioners, which can automatically adjust the air supply according to the real-time temperature, enhancing comfort greatly.

Since Chongqing East Station is a brand-new station, the commercial facilities are relatively limited. But it is being rapidly filled in.

Checking in & Boarding the Train

• Brief process: go to 5F – enter – security check -find your ticket gate – check in – board the train

Entrances, waiting halls and security checks are all on the 5F floor. So no matter how you get there, go to 5F first.

There are four entrances in each direction of the station. You can choose the entrance according to your ticket gate.

• East Entrance: closer to 29A and 29B
• West Entrance: closer to 1A and 1B
• North and South Entrances: closer to 14A and 14B.

To facilitate passengers, the clerk will only verify your passport when checking in at the ticket gate. So, after entering, you can go through the security check directly. Then, find your ticket gate and show your passport to the clerk there to board the train.

Tips: For international travelers purchasing a ticket with a passport, you need to check in at the manual passage. It is next to the automatic ticket checking machines and there is always a clerk standing beside it. So, it is very easy to find.

Exiting the Station

The trains will stop at the platform on the 4F. After getting off, follow the exit signs to leave the platform floor first. Then you will see clear signs of all the transportation means overhead, including rail transit, taxi, ride-hailing car, bus, long-distance bus, etc. They are easy to find, so you do not have to worry about getting lost.

Note: If taking the rail transit, you can enter the subway station hall directly without going through security checks.

Transportation to/from Chongqing East Railway Station

How to Get to the Station?

• By Metro: Now, only metro line 6 can take you to Chongqing East Railway Station. After getting off, follow the sign of exit 3-6 and leave from exit 3. Then walk to the right, you will see the elevator. Just take it to 5F.
• By Taxi: Taking a taxi is the most convenient way, because the driver can drop you off directly at the drop-off point near the north entrance or south entrance on the 5F. A single trip from city center will take about 40 minutes and cost about CNY 40.
• By Bus: Three regular bus lines, 100, 102 and 345 have been in operation to transport tourists to and from Nanping Business District and Chayuan. Besides, there is an airport bus line D602. After arrival, follow the sign of railway entrance to the west square. Then turn left and take the elevator to 5F.
• By Long-distance Bus: Over 60 long-distance bus routes have been opened, covering many cities in Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and surrounding districts and counties in Chongqing.

How to Get to Major Attractions and Other Transportation Hubs?

• Jiefangbei and Hongya Cave: Take rail transit line 6 (Chongqing Railway Station Section) to Liujiaping first, then transfer to rail transit line 6 to Xiaoshizi. Leave from exit 6 and walk about 13 minutes or 10 minutes to Jiefangbei and Hongya Cave, respectively. It needs about 45 minutes and CNY 5.
• Ciqikou Ancient Town: Take rail transit line 6 (Chongqing Railway Station Section) to Liujiaping, then transfer to rail transit line 6 to Xiaoshizi, finally, transfer to line 1 to Ciqikou. This trip will take about 1.5 hours and cost CNY 8.
• Jiangbei Airport:The most convenient way is to take the direct airport bus line D620. You can take it on the 3F of the railway station. This bus line operates from 8:30 to 19:00 with a ticket price of CNY 15. A single journey takes about 1 hour and 50 minutes.

1. It is advised to arrive at the station at least 45 – 60 minutes in advance.
2. There are limited dining and shopping options in Chongqing East Railway Station, so it is better to bring some food and drinks with you in advance.
3. The display screens provide the information of all the departure trains in both Chinese and English.
