At present, Diqing Shangri-La Airport is the only airport in Shangri-La City. Shangeri-LaĀ airport transportation provides direct flights, but only from Kunming, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, and Lhasa. Passengers from other cities need to transfer in one of these cities to reach Shangri-La. You can choose a suitable flight based on your travel itinerary.

Diqing Shangri-La Airport, located at Shenying Road, Shangri-La City, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, about 11 kilometers from the city center, is easily accessible with a drive of around 30 minutes.

Trains to Shangri-La

Opened on November 26, 2023, Shangri-La Railway StationĀ is situated 4 kilometers southwest of Shangri-La City and 2 kilometers west of Dukezong Ancient City. Currently, high-speed rail services to Shangri-La are available only from Kunming, Lijiang, and Dali. Passengers from other cities need to make a transfer to get there.

Buses to Shangri-La

Road travel is the primary means of Shangri-La transport. For independent travelers, taking a bus or long-distance coach to Shangri-La is the most economical option. Buses are available from several cities, including Lijiang (approximately 3.5-4 hours), Dali (around 5 hours), Kunming (about 9 hours), and Jianchuan (around 3.5 hours). Among them, Lijiang Bus Station has a bus departing for Shangri-La every 40 minutes from 7:30 to 17:00, and takes about 4 hours to reach Shangri-La. There will be additional buses during the peak season.
  • Train: The high-speed train from Lijiang to Shangri-La is 139 kilometers long,starting from Lijiang Station, heading north through Yulong County of Lijiang City, and ending in Shangri-La City of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. it will take about 1 to 1.5 hours from Lijiang to Shangri-La. The ticket prices for first-class seats and second-class seats on the Dianzang high-speed train cost respectively 100 yuan and 63 yuan.

Transport to Shangri-La from Kunming

  • Bus: Both Kunming West Coach Station and North Coach Station offer direct long-distance buses to Shangri-La. Buses depart from Kunming West Coach Station at 08:30, 09:30, and 19:00, with ticket prices ranging from CNY 208 to 249 per person. Meanwhile, a bus departs from Kunming North Coach Station at 17:30, with a ticket fare of CNY 208 per person.
  • Flight: Direct flights from Kunming Changshui Airport to Shangri-La take about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Transport to Shangri-La from Dali

  • Bus: Dali North Bus Station (located on Dali-Lijiang Road in the suburbs of Dali City) has buses heading to Shangri-La from 6:30 to 12:00 every day every half hour. The journey takes 7-8 hours, and costs 66 to 70 yuan. Every evening at 20:00, the bus offers a sleeper bus service, with a journey time of 8-9 hours and a ticket price of 85 yuan.   • Train: To travel from Dali to Shangri-La by high-speed train, you can depart from Dali Railway Station and arrive at Shangri-La Railway Station.   • Drive:Departing from DaochengYading along the National Highway 214, a key Shangri-La transportation routeĀ to this town. The distance from Daocheng Yading Airport to Shangri-La is 124 kilometers, and the entire journey takes about 2 hours and 17 minutes.
  • Bus: You can also take a bus at Yading Village or the Shangri-La Town Visitor Service Center. After arriving at Zhaguanbeng, you can walk or take an electric cart to attractions such as Chonggu Meadow, Chonggu Temple, and Zhenzhu Lake, and then return the same way.

Get around Shangri-La

Transport from Shangri-La to YubengĀ 

Yubeng Village is located in Yunling Township, Deqin County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Transport from Shangri-La toĀ Napahai Lake

Napahai, or ā€œNapa Tsoā€ in Tibetan, meaning ā€œlake behind the forest,ā€ is a national AAA-level scenic spot. It’s a seasonal lake and a plateau wetland, protecting rare species like the black-necked crane.

To get to Napahai from Shangri-La, you can take a bus, departing hourly from the ancient city parking lot. Alternatively, you can choose a chartered car, renting bikes near the ancient city for 10-20 yuan/day. Taxis are also cost-effective. A round-trip costs about 50 yuan, allowing you to include Napahai in a tour. Horse riding will be chill but relatively expansive, costing 120 yuan for 1.5 hours.
