The Nightlife of Xian

When the night falls, the city’s alive. A variety of snack stands fills the streets. Follow the guide to explore the streets and have a taste of local barbecue, Biangbiang noodles, crumbled flatbread in mutton stew (Yangrou Paomo), and Xi ‘an people favorite drink – Ice Peak!

What will it be ilke to live in the traditonal Farmers’ Cave (Yaodong) in 2021?

You will transfer to the Shaanxi countryside to stay overnight in a cave-dwelling. The cave-dwelling is a kind of unique residential building in northwest China, in which the main houses and country yards are carved out of cliffs. You will meet Rocky, a man whose cave house has been well maintained for over 200 years.

  1. Day 1: Xi'an arrival
    Food tour

    Your driver will pick you up at the airport or the train station, and transfer you to your hotel. You are advised to arrive before 3 pm. At about 6 pm, the evening food tour starts! Follow the guide to explore the bustling food courts and experience the vibrant street life. The food tour will end in a local brewery where you can see the city walls and then walk back to your hotel.

  2. Day 2: Xi’an City tour
    Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, Shuyuanmen Ancient Cultural Street & ancient City Wall

    Today a classic Xi'an inner-city route is waiting for you. Many of Xi’an’s highlights will be covered. Head to the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda which is one of the most notable pagodas in China. At around 65 meters tall, the pagoda was built in 652 (in Tang Dynasty) to store Buddhist scriptures brought back by Xuanzang from India.

    Move to Shuyuanmen Ancient Cultural Street to meet a complex of stalls in the ancient style of Ming and Qing Dynasties. You'll join crowds of people looking for a good deal among stalls overflowing with calligraphy, paintings, calligraphy brushes, inks, paper-cuts, antiques, jade articles, folk music instruments, etc.

    Step up to the ancient City Wall which is the boundary of the ancient city center and modern Xi’an. You can walk on the wall, or rent a bicycle to get a panoramic view of the ancient city and the breathtaking moat.

    Sure thing, today you will also entertain your taste bud with iconic Shaanxi food like Lamb Paomo (Pieces of Flat-bread Bun Soaked in Mutton Soup), Hulu Ji (Gourd-shaped Chicken), etc. It is an irresistible pleasure to savor a cup of specialty ice cream after dinner.

  3. Day 3: Morning market & cave dwelling

    Today is the highlight of this 4-day trip. In the early morning, explore the hustle and bustle of the morning market in the alleys of Xi'an which is packed with various stalls of local authentic food and snacks. Flea markets with all kinds of souvenirs, antiques, artworks, and more will bring you into the life of the local neighborhood.

    Then, a 1-hour drive will take you to cave dwellings on Lishan Mountain. Enjoy the leisure hiking and wandering in the countryside and forest. You will meet Rocky, a man whose cave house is carved out of cliffs, and has been well maintained for over 200 years.

    For dinner, you can expect many rural Shaanxi dishes including freshly handmade spinach noodles, local crusty pancakes, etc. After dinner, enjoy the free time to savor every moment of your cave experience.

  4. Day 4: Terracotta Army-Xi'an departure

    After a cave-style breakfast, a 30 minutes drive will take you to the Terracotta Army which is a must-visit when you in Xi'an. It is rated as one of the top ten precious ancient tombs. Here you will marvel at more than 8000 life-sized sculptures of the ancient army, including both gray-haired veterans and young soldiers, with multiple poses and individualized facial features.

    Then you will be transferred to the airport or train station for departure.

    We will arrive at Xian's north high-speed train station around 4 pm and the airport around 5 pm, so you need to schedule a later departure.
