AM: At 08:30, our English-speaking tour guide and driver will pick you up from the downtown hotel. Our first stop will be the must-see Terracotta Warriors and Horses. Known as “the Eighth Wonder of the World” and one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in the 20th century, the museum shows a surprisingly high level in sculpture. The splendid battle formation will leave you an impressive memory. You can spend 2.5 – 3 hours here.
Noon: Lunch will be at your own expense (please feel free to ask your guide for suggestions)
PM: After lunch, you can either go back to your hotel or continue to visit 1 – 2 more attractions in Xian downtown, like Ancient City Wall, Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Shaanxi History Museum (closed on each Monday), Bell & Drum Tower Square-Muslim Quarter, Great Mosque, Yongxingfang Street, Huaqing Hot Spring, Banpo Museum, Small Wild Goose Pagoda (closed on each Tuesday), and Xian Museum (closed on each Tuesday).
Ancient City Wall: Built in 1370, it is the best-preserved and largest ancient city wall in the world. In old time, the City Wall functioned as military defense. Travelers can optionally ride a bike on the wall to have a special experience here.
Big Wild Goose Pagoda: This is a place to worship Buddha. It was originally built to keep the figures of Buddha brought back from India by the famous Buddhist master Xuanzang in the Tang Dynasty.
Shaanxi History Museum: Although its name is Shaanxi History Museum, it actually boasts a large collection of cultural relics from the whole country.
Bell & Drum Tower Square–Muslim Quarter: Located in the very center of Xian City, they are symbols of Xian. Muslim Quarter is a famous food street in Xian where you can find many authentic local snacks and handicrafts.
Great Mosque: Great Mosque keeps its original Muslim style and meanwhile absorbs some Xian local elements. It’s a good place to learn Muslim culture in Xian.
Huaqing Hot Spring: This place is a royal hot spring and garden for Xuanzong Emperor and his favorite concubine Yang Yuhuan in the Tang Dynasty.
Banpo Museum: The Museum is the largest ruins of the Neolithic Age in China discovered so far.
Small Goose Pagoda: This pagoda is a free attraction located in the busy downtown but keeps itself in peace and quietness.
Xian Museum: Although it’s not as big as Shaanxi History Museum, it has lots of rare historical and cultural relics. It is still free and less crowded.
Yongxingfang Street: On this street, you will find delicious local food and interesting traditional Chinese stuff such as ink sticks, paper, and writing brushes. You will also see how some foods are made in traditional ways.
