Tang Paradise (or Datang Furong Garden) is a large theme park near the city of Xi’an, in Shaanxi province; it is a newly opened tourist attraction in April 2005. Tang Paradise covers a total area of 1000 mu (about 165 acres) and of which 300 mu (about 49 acres) is water. This tourist attraction not only claims to be the biggest cultural theme park in the northwest region of China but also the first royal-garden-like park to give a full display of the Tang Dynasty’s (618-907) culture. Altogether, twelve scenic regions are distributed throughout Tang Paradise to provide visitors with the enjoyment of twelve cultural themes and a perfect exhibition of the grandness, prosperity, and brilliance of the culture of the Tang Dynasty.

All the attractions in the Tang Paradise Park are distributed around the Fu Rong Lake, with the Purple Cloud Tower serving as its central site.

Watch Tang-style Performances at the Phoenix Theater

Thanks to its openness and diversity, Tang Dynasty welcomed various cultures from the world, which contributes to its rich and varied artistic achievements in music, dance, and poetry. To offer visitors a captivating glimpse into the artistic heritage of the Tang Dynasty, the Phoenix Theater hosts various thematic music, dance, drama, and poetry performances every day to revive the charm of the prosperous Tang Dynasty.

The theater is north of the south gate of the park, serving as main performance area in the park. The musical epic “Dreaming Back to the Great Tang Dynasty” (梦回大唐) is one of the most renowned show in the theater. It is a 6 act show, blending the splendor of the Tang Dynasty, the dazzling songs and dances, and dreamlike choreography.

Admire Architecture of the Purple Cloud Tower and Feel the Imperial Power

The current Purple Cloud Tower (紫云楼) is constructed based on the historical records of the original tower in the Tang Dynasty. It is the center of the Emperors Cultural Area and the entire park, standing as the primary clusters of the Tang-style architecture in the park. During a visit here, visitors will get a chance to look into the achievements of several influential emperors of the Tang Dynasty, indcluding Lishimin, Wu Zetian, and Li Longji.

Learn about Ancient Tea Culture at Lu Yu Tea House (陆羽茶社)

The art and culture of tea drinking came to its peak during the Tang Dynasty. Lu Yu is one of the most famous figures in tea culture during that time. As a tea master, he wrote the first comprehensive book on tea, and was acclaimed as the “Tea Sage”.

Watch the Water & Light Show – Chasing Dreams in the Great Tang (大唐追梦)

Chasing Dreams in the Great Tang (大唐追梦) is a spectacular water, dance, and light show staging on the Qujiang Lake, offering a unique viewing experience from the boat. It takes advantage of lasers, video projection, fountains, shadow, water, dance, and the park’s landscape, creating ethereal scenes, dazzling display of colors and images on the curtain of water, and a series of romantically exquisite dreams.

Through an enchanting boat journey on the lake, visitors will indulge into the dreamscape narratives, glimpse into the Tang Dynasty romances and Silk Road splendors, and encounter Li Bai, grand imperial feasts, Emperor Xuanzong, etc.

Good to know:

The show is staged from 21:00-22:00, and visitors need to board the boat at the North Dock in the park. From November to March, it will be suspended due to seasonal weather conditions that impact.

How to Get to the Tang Paradise

• By metro: The metro line 4 will take you to the Datang Furongyuan (Tang Paradise) Station from where you can walk to the park in few minutes.
• By bus:Take the bus 21, 601, Tourist Line 8 (610) and get off at Tang Paradise Station. Or take the bus 22, 23, 24, 44, 161, 212, 224, 307, 526, 609, Tourist Line 9 (320) and get off at Tang Paradise West Gate Station.
• By taxi:You can also take a taxi from anywhere in the city and ask the driver to take you to Tang Paradise or Datang Furong Garden. The fare may vary depending on the distance and traffic.

• It’s recommended to avoid weekends and public holidays, as the park will get crowded at these times.
• The Tang Paradise Theme Park is near to the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda and the Great Tang All Day Mall. Visitors can easily combine these attractions in a one day Xian tour.
• Visitors can explore the park by either walking or the electric cars. If you are pressed for time, you can take the electric car to see main highlights of the park. The ticket is CNY 10 per person.
• The park is especially spectacular in the Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival when it is decorated with colorful lanterns and fireworks.
