This 10-day Yunnan cuisine tour is designed for travelers who want to taste authentic flavors while discovering the diverse culture and scenery of Southwest China. As part of a unique China food tour in Yunnan, you will taste local specialties, such as steamed pot chicken, rice noodles, flower cakes, goat milk desserts and Nuodeng ham, each of which has a profound connection with the local traditions. Also, you will learn to cook them under the guidance of expert chefs.
This tour provides a variety of cultural experiences in addition to food – Bai tie-dye art classes, wood carving workshops, and meals with a Naxi or Tibetan family. Day-by-day Itinerary
- Day 1: Kunming Arrival
Welcome to Kunming - China’s “Spring City”! Upon arrival, your guide will pick you up at the exit of the arrival hall with a welcome sign "China Xian Tour". You’ll then be sent to your hotel by a private car with a professional driver. The rest of the day is free for you to relax or arrange your own activities.
Recommended Activity: Visit Yunnan Ethnic Village by Dianchi Lake. Here, you can see the traditions of Yunnan’s 26 ethnic groups through their crafts, clothing, and culture.

- Day 2: Best Kunming ExplorationSee Surreal Stone Forest Karst, Savor Yunnan Flavors, Unwind in Vibrant Lakeside Park
After a good night’s sleep, drive about 1.5 hours from the city center to the Stone Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Shilin Yi Autonomous County. This amazing karst landscape is filled with limestone shapes that look like pillars, pagodas, cones, and even giant mushrooms. Take your time to enjoy the stunning views and capture great photos.
For lunch, you will taste local delicacies, Yunnan Rice Noodles and Steam Pot Chicken. After lunch, you will go back to downtown Kunming to visit Green Lake Park. Green Lake Park is one of Kunming’s most attractive spots. Stroll the paths and enjoy the changes of the seasons; tulips in the spring, lotus flowers in the summer, and the flocks of red-billed gulls in the winter. You may also see locals playing music, dancing, or practicing Tai Chi or another martial art.
After that, drive you back to your hotel.

Yunnan Crossing the Bridge Noodles - Day 3: Kunming to Dali by High-speed TrainStroll Dali's Ancient Lanes, Cruise Erhai's Turquoise Waters, Craft Flower Cake Treats
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the railway station for a high-speed train to Dali. Upon arrival, your guide will meet you and escort you to your hotel in Dali Ancient Town.
After a short rest, take a stroll along the old town. Sitting at the foot of the beautiful Cangshan Mountain, the ancient city has a history of over 1,200 years, starting from the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Once a key cultural and trade center, it still keeps many well-preserved Bai-style buildings. Inside the town, you can find many shops selling local crafts like marble carvings, ethnic clothing, and specialty foods.
Next, experience a boat tour of Erhai Lake, surrounded by snow capped mountains. The ship slowly passed through the turquoise water, and you could see the panoramic view of Bai ethnic villages dotted along the coastline and the sacred Golden Temple on Jinsuo Island. If the weather permits, the sun casts golden ripples on the waves, especially at dawn or dusk, turning the scenery into a vivid ink painting. Your guide will explain the story of the lake to you.
After that, get the chance to make a famous Yunnan snack called Flower Cake. First created during the Qing Dynasty over 300 years ago, it is mainly prepared with flour and petals such as roses, magnolias, and chrysanthemums.

Experience a boat tour of Erhai Lake - Day 4: Drive from Dali to ShaxiWitness Bai Tie-Dye Magic, Savor Nuodeng's Famed Ham, Visit Tai Chi-Like River Bend
After breakfast, take a 1-hour drive to Zhoucheng Village to see the Bai people's traditional tie-dye workshop, a unique craft of this minority group. It is also a nice place to pick up souvenirs with Bai-style designs if you're interested. Then, continue with a 3-hour drive to Nuodeng Village, the oldest village in the northwest region of Yunnan. It is well-known for its ham made using salt from local wells. Be sure to try it when you're there. Here, a large number of buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as famous Taoist architectural complexes, are preserved.
Just 1 km north of Yunlong County, the Bijiang River bends into an “S” shape, creating a natural landform that looks like the Taoist “Tai Chi Eight Diagram Symbol.”
After the visit, drive you to Shaxi Ancient Town for an overnight stay. In the evening, you can explore it on your own.

A tie-dye workshop in Zhoucheng Village - Day 5: Old Town and Mountain ExplorationStroll Shaxi Ancient Town, Craft Goat Milk Treats, And Marvel at Sandstone Wonders
After breakfast, spend time exploring the peaceful Shaxi Ancient Town. Once an important stop on the Tea Horse Ancient Road, it has kept much of its old charm and remains quieter than many other towns. This makes it a great place for a slow walk. Visit the local market to see stalls selling farm produce and handmade crafts. Later, join a workshop where you can learn to make goat milk cake, a well-loved local specialty, with the help of a teacher.
Then drive for half an hour to Shibao Mountain, located 25 kilometers southwest of Jianchuan County. The mountain has a Danxia landform, and various shapes of strange peaks and stones have been formed from weathered red sandstone, such as bells, arrows, lions, and elephants. In addition, there are lush forests, unique temples, and gurgling streams here. Grottoes and cliff sculptures are also highlights here. Drive you back to Shaxi town after the sightseeing.

Sideng Street in Shaxi Ancient Town - Day 6: Drive to LijiangMaster Wood Carving with Local Artisans, Stroll Lijiang's Ancient Lanes
Local artisans have been continuously passing down skills from generation to generation in Jianchuan County, so it has the title of the "hometown of craftsmen". Potent artisans carve wood and bamboo into birds, flowers, and natural scenery, and these are used to decorate doors, windows, and furniture. Here, you will join a hands-on wood carving class with a skilled master, learning basic techniques and making your own small “masterpiece” to keep as a special memory. After finishing the lesson, travel comfortably to Lijiang by private transfer.
Once you arrive, take a walk through Lijiang Ancient Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town is known for its Naxi ethnic culture, stone-paved lanes, and traditional houses. You can explore Sifang Street, a lively market square that was once a key stop on the Ancient Tea Horse Road, and visit Mufu Palace (optional, at your own expense), the old home of the Mu family rulers.
Next on your agenda is the Black Dragon Pool in Jade Spring park, one of Lijiang’s most famous places. You can also find pavilions, marble bridge, willow, old temples, and of course, the reflection of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain around the pool. At the end of the day, your driver will send you to your hotel in Lijiang.

A Panoramic View of Lijiang Ancient Town from Mu Palace - Day 7: Ancient Town & Snow MountainAdmire Bai Ethnic Architecture, Marvel At Jade Dragon's Peaks, Show, Valley
After breakfast, head to Shuhe Ancient Town, which is one of the earliest ancestral settlements of the Naxi people and shows traditional Bai and Hui ethnic architecture. Its stone paved alleys, ancient bridges, and clear streams make people feel as if they have returned to the Tea Horse Ancient Road era. The bustling markets allow us to glimpse the local life. In the distance, you can see the snow Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
Next, you’ll be transferred into Yulong Snow Mountain Scenic Area to admire the stunning snow-covered peaks. Rising over 4,000 meters, it is the largest snow mountain in the Northern Hemisphere. Before exploring further, enjoy the ethnic Impression Lijiang Show, created by the famous Chinese director Zhang Yimou. This outdoor performance takes place at Ganhaizi Meadow, about 3,100 meters above sea level, with the mountain as its backdrop.
After that, visit Ganhaizi Meadow itself and take a sightseeing bus to Baishuihe River. Then ride a cable car up to Glacier Park, where you can hike through untouched snowy landscapes. Finally, travel by battery car to Blue Moon Valley, where clear lakes sparkle like pearls against the dramatic scenery.
Note: Tickets for the Glacier Park Cableway are hard to get, and waiting for the cable way often takes 2 hours. Depending on the situation, we may change to the Yunshanping Cableway instead.

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain - Day 8: Lijiang Family VisitImmerse in Naxi Home Life, Admire Multicultural Murals, Taste Local Traditions Firsthand
In the morning, your guide will take you to visit a local family, one of the best ways to understand everyday life more closely. Be welcomed into a Naxi household, where you can talk with family members, observe how they cook traditional dishes, and even try learning a few words from their unique language. This experience offers a personal look into the traditions of the Naxi people.
Afterward, continue your visit to Baisha Village to admire the famous Baisha Murals. These colorful paintings tell religious stories from Taoism, Buddhism, and Tibetan Buddhism. Not only are the murals aesthetically pleasing, but they also hold significance in that they were produced by Han, Tibetan, and Naxi artists working together. Clearly depicting the mingling of cultures and beliefs in this ancient village.

Baisha Murals - Day 9: Lijiang Drive to Shangri-LaMarvel at Yangtze's Dramatic Bend, Trek a Deepest Canyon, Spin a Sacred Prayer Wheel
After breakfast, set off for Shangri-La. On the way, stop at the famous First Bend of the Yangtze River. Originating from the high Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the mighty Yangtze suddenly makes a turn of more than 100 degrees at Shasongbi Village in Shangri-La. This sharp curve forms a rare V-shaped bend, known as the First Bend of the Yangtze River.
Your journey continues to Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest canyons on earth with a dramatic vertical drop of over 3,900 meters. The gorge is divided into three sections, and you will hike along the narrowest and most thrilling part - the Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge. According to legend, a fierce tiger once leaped across the giant rock in the river to escape a hunter, giving the gorge its striking name.
Afterward, drive north for about one and a half hours to arrive in Shangri-La City. Your visit begins with a walk up Guishan Hill, where the world's largest prayer wheel stands, as tall as a five-story building. Join the locals in pushing the wheel - turning it three times is believed to sweep away misfortune and invite good fortune. From the top of the hill, enjoy sweeping views of Dukezong Ancient Town, with its traditional Tibetan-style house.

Tiger Leaping Gorge - Day 10: Nature and Culture in Shangri-LaDiscover Tibetan Monastic Splendor, Wander pristine Lakes, Embrace Tibetan Home Hospitality
This morning's excursion in Shangri-La begins with an entrance into Songzanlin Monastery. Sometimes called the Little Potala Palace, this temple complex sits directly on the mountainside, and is the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan province. There are five floors to the monastery, each with its own sacred spaces. The top floor contains a large hall with statues of the 5th and 7th Dalai Lamas, thangkas and colourful relics, and countless treasures illustrating the profundity of Tibetan culture.
Next, head to Pudacuo National Forest Park, a natural wonderland well protected for its lush wetlands, dense forests, clean lakes, clear streams, and rare wildlife. Among its highlights, Bita Lake stands out for its crystal waters. A four-kilometer walking path allows you to stroll around the lakeshore and appreciate the scenery. In the center of the lake is a lovely island with flocks of ducks, elegant black swans, and a variety of beautiful water birds.
After that, you will be invited into a Tibetan local family's house. In the warmth of the local family home, you can enjoy their hospitality and some local snacks and cup of rich butter tea. If you'd like, you may also join the family in preparing the butter tea yourself (optional at your own expense). Finally, escort you back to your hotel.

Bita Lake in Pudacuo National Park - Day 11: Shangri-La Departure
