The Yunnan Muslim population is approximately up to 700,000Ā currently. This diverse land boasts over 820 mosque.

In 1253 AD, 13th century, the Mongol emperor Möngke sent his younger brother Kublai Khan with a large army to conquer the Dali Kingdom. After Dali Kingdom was subdued, they intermarried with the local ethnic groups, forming a stable Hui community in Yunnan. This became the main source of the present-day Hui people in Yunnan today.
