Day-by-day Itinerary

1. Day 1: Suzhou Arrival
   Step into the exquisite world of classical gardens

   Your private guide and driver will meet you at the train station or hotel lobby, ready to start an amazing exploration of Suzhou.

   Itinerary Tip: It is recommended that you arrive before 9:00 a.m.

   Tiger Hill is the first stop, which has nearly 2,500 years of history. The guide will take you to see highlights such as the Broken Beam Hall, the Sword-Testing Stone, and the Sword Pool, while sharing interesting historical stories about these places. And last you will reach the leaning Yunyan Pagoda that even tilted 400 years earlier than the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy!

   

   Next, step into the modern Suzhou Silk Museum. You’ll first be captivated by the 520 white metal rods hanging in the plaza, swaying like mist in the wind. In the historical hall, you can see the full-bodied gilded bronze silkworms from the Han dynasty and, through magnifying lenses, observe the clear warp and weft patterns on ancient silk fragments.

   The most amazing part is the 'Future Hall' — traditional patterns transform into a digital kaleidoscope in mirrored spaces, and you can walk inside to watch light and shadow reflect endlessly on the walls and floors. Besides, touch silk samples of different varieties to feel the texture difference from plain satin to Xiangyun silk.

   In the Lingering Garden, wander through the winding paths and discover hidden views around every corner: entering through a narrow courtyard, you’ll walk through twisted and shadowy corridors until suddenly, the view opens up — a whole scene of hills, ponds, shaded greenery, and pavilions unfolds before you.

   Experience the magic of 'framed scenery': peek through a silk-screen window, and the garden view will appear like a moving miniature painting; stroll along the waterside corridor, listening to the blending of flowing water and your footsteps. Pause at Guan Yun Peak, where this rock is 'slender, wrinkled, perforated, and transparent'; walk around it and discover what shapes it resembles from different angles.

   

   At dusk, take a stroll along Shantang Ancient Street. Hear the soft Suzhou dialect in street calls, the plucking of strings at tea houses with pingtan performances; see red lanterns reflected on the water and small boats slowly passing under arched bridges. Sample a warm fermented rice cake or a begonia cake (at your own expense), and watch locals chatting in the evening, truly immersing yourself in Suzhou’s daily life.

   In the evening, check into your hotel for a good rest.

2. Day 2: Suzhou to Zhouzhuang
   Stroll through the Suzhou Museum and the first water town in China, Zhouzhuang

   Step into the final masterpiece of the architectural master I.M. Pei — the Suzhou Museum. The museum itself is a work of art — you can see geometric lines cutting into the sky, and light passing through the shutters casting shadows on the white walls that shift with time. The main courtyard’s "broken rock garden" is a must-see: the walls are like paper, the rocks like ink, and when the sunlight or mist changes, the shadows resemble a Mi Fu ink painting.

   

   The exhibits inside the museum are equally breathtaking — here, we especially want to introduce you to one treasure: the Lotus-flower-shaped Mi'se Celadon Bowl, acclaimed as the top of celadon porcelains. Its glaze is as smooth as jade, presenting a texture known as 'Emerald Peaks,' and it serves as the standard piece for dating Five Dynasties secret-color porcelain.

   Afterward, drive to visit the "China's No.1 Water Town" — Zhouzhuang Village. As soon as you step into the ancient town, you’ll be surrounded by crisscrossing waterways, stone arch bridges over the rivers, and Ming and Qing dynasty houses along the banks. You can head to Shuangqiao Bridge, which is a landmark spot in Zhouzhuang! Standing on the bridge watching the little boats glide by, you might instantly understand the poetic imagery of 'small bridges, flowing water, and people's homes.

   At the end of the trip, we will transfer you back to your hotel.

   

   Optional Activity:

   You can choose to experience rowing a wooden boat, drifting along the waterways between the Double Bridge and the Floating Bridge. Or enjoy an authentic Kunqu opera performance.

3. Day 3: Wuxi to Nanjing by High-speed Train
   Be amazed by the Lingshan Grand Buddha & enjoy the beautiful scenery of Taihu Lake

   Drive to Wuxi and head straight to the Lingshan Scenic Area by the shore of Taihu Lake. From a distance, you can see the 88-meter-tall Lingshan Grand Buddha standing between the mountains, its bronze body glinting golden in the sunlight. As you get closer, look up to see the Buddha's compassionate face — the sheer scale creates a strong visual impact.

   Take an elevator up to the base of the Buddha, touch its feet yourself—a local tradition playfully known as "hugging the Buddha's feet" to seek last-minute blessings—and get a bird's-eye view of the entire scenic area and the sparkling Taihu Lake.

   

   Next, step into the magnificent Brahma Palace. The interior of this Buddhist art hall is breathtaking: you’ll see exquisite wood carvings, Dunhuang-style murals, massive glazed paintings and reliefs, and above, a changing starry dome.

   In the afternoon, visit one of the premier islands of Taihu Lake - Yuantouzhu. It is world-renowned for its pink cherry blossoms in spring.

   If you miss the cherry blossom season, you can still take a cable car ride (at your own expense) for a bird's-eye view of the lake and mountains or stroll along the shore and enjoy Taihu Lake's most picturesque scenery.

   

   After the tour, take a 1-hour high-speed train to Nanjing. Upon arrival, a local driver will be waiting at the exit to transfer you to your hotel.

   Optional Activity:

   We highly recommend taking a boat trip on Taihu, which gives you a unique perspective to appreciate the lake's vastness and the hazy silhouettes of distant islands.

   Travel Tip:

   If you want to see the iconic “pink snow” at the peak of cherry blossoms, we strongly suggest planning your visit between late March and early April.

4. Day 4: Nanjing Exploration
   Explore the Cultural Highlights of Nanjing

   In the morning, visit the Nanjing Museum — one of the three largest museums in China. The History Hall shows the museum’s treasures, such as the Western Han dynasty golden beast (a pure gold leopard weighing 9 kilograms), the Eastern Han 'Guangling King Seal' golden stamp, and the Ming dynasty 'golden cicada with jade leaf', among other precious artifacts.

   Get close to the display cases and use a magnifying glass to carefully appreciate the hammer marks on the golden beast and the seal script on the stamp handle.

   

   In the Republican Era Hall, you’ll see antique trams, old post offices, and bank buildings with a mix of Chinese and Western styles; hear Zhou Xuan's old songs playing on a gramophone; and even step into a retro teahouse to enjoy a cup of clear tea while sitting on a vintage wooden chair and flipping through reproductions of newspapers from that era (at your own expense).

   Special Note: If the museum is fully booked, the visit will be replaced with the Chinese Imperial Examination Museum. You’ll enter an underground four-level exhibition hall, seeing walls stacked with bamboo slips and examination papers from various dynasties. You can experience taking an 'exam' in a candidate’s room — a tiny cubicle that fits only one person, where you’ll hear simulated proctor footsteps.

   In the afternoon, climb Purple Mountain (Zhongshan) to first visit the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum. Ascend the 392 stone steps to enjoy a sweeping view of Nanjing embraced by lush green forests, while learning more about the founding father of modern China.

   Next, explore the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum — the tomb of Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of the Ming dynasty (1368 to 1644). Stroll along the Sacred Way and see giant stone statues of elephants, camels, and qilins lined up in pairs on both sides of the path.

   You can touch the surface of the stone figures and feel the rough texture left by 600 years of wind and rain. In autumn, the ginkgo leaves carpet the ground here in golden hues.

   

   Finally, you are free to stroll along the Confucius Temple-Qinhuai River scenic area. You’ll see ancient buildings on both sides of the river adorned with red lanterns, and painted boats gliding on the water; hear a mix of oar splashes, water sounds, and vendor calls. You can try a bowl of duck blood vermicelli soup or a plate of salted duck (at your own expense), and sit on Wende Bridge to watch the night reflections on the Qinhuai River shimmer like scattered gold.

5. Day 5: Departure from Nanjing
   Trace the marks of the Six Dynasties city walls, and unlock the wisdom and philosophy of Buddhism

   Today, move to the Zhonghua Gate Castle — the largest surviving castle-style gate in China. You can climb the ancient city walls and witness the complex structure of the three-tiered barbican, with the hidden soldiers cave deep and dark. Step into one of the hidden soldiers’ caves to feel the cool air inside and the weight of history.

   

   Travel Note: If you prefer natural scenery, you can choose the Taicheng section of the city wall. There, you can stroll along the city walls, seeing the blue waves of Xuanwu Lake on one side and Jiming Temple with yellow walls and black tiles on the other.

   Head to Niushoushan Cultural Park. From afar, you can see the massive dome (Buddha Crown Palace), resembling a "Buddha's hair bun," facing the towering Buddha Crown Pagoda across the water, reflected in the surrounding lotus pond, creating a visually striking scene.

   The highlight of today is sinking deep into the Usnisa Palace (Foding Palace). Inside the magnificent hall, a 7.5-meter-long reclining Shakyamuni statue slowly rotates 360 degrees. You can stand in the immersive stage setting, listen to ethereal background music, and watch the serene smile on the statue's face gracefully appear from different angles as it turns.

   

   Here, your Jiangnan story nears its end. Your private guide and driver will take you to Nanjing Airport/train station, making it convenient for you to go home or move to your next destination.
