Day-by-day Itinerary
- Day 1: Chongqing Arrival
After you arrive at Jiangbei International Airport or any train station in Chongqing, your guide will take you to the downtown hotel for check-in.
No activities are scheduled today to allow time for rest after a long trip. If you arrive early, you can walk around the hotel. If you arrive in the evening, you can appreciate the amazing night view.
As a first-time visitor to Chongqing, you will soon find that it's completely different from cities on the plains. The roads extend up and down the hillsides. High-rise buildings, bridges, rail lines, and the rivers appear at different heights.
There is no need to rush to the sights. Just get used to the pace of life in this mountain city on the first night.
- Day 2: Chongqing City ExplorationDiscover history, ride through a building, and savor hotpot
Start your journey of discovery in Chongqing after breakfast. First, go to the China Three Gorges Museum. It not only tells the stories about the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, but also helps you to figure out the relationship between Chongqing, Yangtze River, and the mountainous terrain. After the visit, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the city's unique space and history.
Next take the representative light rail at Liziba Station. The train winds its way along the mountain slopes. As it travels through a residential building, the best part comes. Sitting in the carriage, you'll see the roads, buildings and river surfaces outside the window constantly change in height. It's a truly unique way to catch a glimpse of this 8D city in a moving train.
Liziba Light Rail passing the residential building We specially arrange authentic Chongqing hotpot for lunch.
After the soup base is served, put the ingredients such as tripe, beef, and vegetables into the pot one by one. Your guide will introduce common soup bases, dipping sauces and local ways of eating to you. If you are not used to spicy food, choose the appropriate level of spiciness. Sitting around a table and eating hotpot like a local is a direct way to get to know this city.
Drive to Wulong after lunch. As the car leaves the city, the high-rises give way to mountains and valleys. Upon arrival, check into the hotel and have a rest.
- Day 3: Wulong Back to ChongqingDescend Into Karst Canyons And Ascend To Chongqing's Nightscape
Today, let's leave the city behind and immerse in the awe-inspiring karst landscape of Wulong.
The first destination is the Three Natural Bridges. Take the sightseeing bus in the scenic area to the mountainous area. Then follow the walkway to descend deep into the canyon.
Only when you stand under the natural stone bridges can you feel their magnificence. A huge rock arch spans overhead, and the cliffs rise almost vertically, making you feel very small on the valley floor.
Continuing forward, you'll notice the stone bridges, caves, peaks, and vegetation constantly change. Rather than gazing at the mountains from a distant observation deck, this offers a true walking experience deep into the canyon.
Hike along the cliffside plank road in Longshuixia Fissure Gorge Then proceed to the Longshuixia Fissure Gorge. Unlike the grandeur of the Three Natural Bridges, the space here is even narrower and deeper. Along the walkway, the rock walls on both sides gradually get closer, and in some parts, only a sliver of sky can be seen.
Today's route requires a lot of walking and stair climbing, so please wear comfortable non-slip shoes.
After driving back to Chongqing, we'll explore the Hongya Cave and the nearby riverside area. In the evening, the lit-up buildings along the mountains unfold layer by layer, and the high-rises on the opposite bank cast their shadows on the river surface, providing a special angle to take in Chongqing's multi-dimensional urban landscape.
- Day 4: Chongqing to Xi'an by High-speed Train
This morning, the driver will take you to the train station for a high-speed train to Xi'an.
As you transfer from a mountain city to the ancient capital Xi'an, the focus of the journey also shifts from urban and natural landscapes to ancient Chinese history.
A local Xi'an driver will pick you up at the train station and escort you to the hotel for check-in.
Time permitting, you can take a walk around the Bell Tower. Unlike the undulating urban space in Chongqing, the old town of Xi'an features more orderly roads and a grid layout enclosed by the Ancient City Wall.
Get some rest early tonight to save energy for the Terracotta Warriors trip tomorrow.
- Day 5: Xi'an History & Tang Dynasty CultureCraft a Warrior And Explore Tang Dynasty Culture By Night
Start the day with a trip to the Terracotta Warriors.
Qin Shihuang is the first emperor to achieve a large-scale unification in Chinese history, and the Terracotta Warriors are an important part of his mausoleum.
After entering the pits, you can first get a full view of the military array from a high place. Rows of terracotta figurines are in front of your eyes, divided into infantry, officers, and warhorses. They are a testament to the scale and order of the Qin Dynasty Army over 2,000 years ago.
Then go closer to observe the details. The hairstyles, armor, postures, and even facial features of different warriors vary, which reveal their identities and ranks.
If allowed, you can enter the archaeological restoration zone to see how broken pottery fragments are reassembled into complete figurines.
Life-sized terracotta warriors in Terracotta Army Museum Make a Mini Warrior by Hand
After the visit, engage with this part of history in a different way.
Under the guidance of a master, play with the clay and create a miniature warrior with your own hands. During the process, you can observe the characteristics of the Terracotta Warriors up close and enrich your visit with a hands-on experience.
In the afternoon, return to the city center and head to the area around the Giant Goose Pagoda and Da Ci'en Temple. It's closely associated with the history of Monk Xuanzang's pilgrimage to the West for Buddhist scriptures and subsequent translation of those scriptures. It's also an important location to know about Tang Dynasty Chang'an.
Xian Giant Wild Goose Pagoda Historic Buddhist Landmark Night Tour at Datang Everbright City
As it gradually gets dark, the street lights come on. The Tang style architecture, music and street performances present a completely different atmosphere from the daytime. Slow your pace to experience the prosperous Tang culture represented in modern Xi'an.
Optional activity: Go to the Datang Everbright City at dusk. You can also choose to dress up in the traditional Chinese costume at your own expense.
- Day 6: Xi'an DepartureVisit Quiet Pagoda, Museum Relics, And Ancient Wall Farewell Views
Compared with the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda boasts a quieter environment. The ancient pagoda combined with surrounding gardens is a perfect option to start the last day of the trip at a slow pace.
Small Wild Goose Pagoda in November Then enter the adjacent Xi'an Museum. Keep an eye on the cultural relics related to the ancient urban life in Chang'an, from pottery figurines, artifacts to daily necessities. They remind you that Chang'an was not only about emperors and palaces, but also a city dwelt by civilians.
Your final stop is the Ancient City Wall. On the top of the wall, one side is the old town area where you can see rooftops, streets and alleys, while the other side shows the modern urban city keeping extending outward. It seems the wall is a dividing line between the city's past and present.
Later, your driver will transfer you to the airport or train station to leave Xi'an, marking the successful end of this 6-day Chongqing, Wulong, and Xi'an tour.
Optional activity: If time and energy allow, you can cycle on the City Wall at your own expense. It's very worthwhile to view the ancient city from a different angle.
