Day-by-day Itinerary
- Day 1: Huangshan ArrivalStep Into a UNESCO Ancient Village
When you arrive, your guide will meet you at the airport or railway station and transfer you to the well-selected hotel in downtown Huangshan. After lunch, set out on a guided tour to visit two UNESCO World Heritage villages, Hongcun and Xidi.
At Hongcun, a filming location for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, you can walk along water channels to Moon Lake, admire the white walls and dark tiles surrounding the pond, then visit South Lake Academy to learn about the educational traditions of the Huizhou people.
Admire the white walls and dark tiles surrounding the pond at Hongcun Village Step into the old lanes of Xidi. Take a close look at stone gate carvings, wooden window patterns and sunlight streaming through courtyards while listening to your guide tell stories of Huizhou merchants and their families. Return to downtown after the tour.
Tips: We recommend arriving in the morning to reserve enough time for the village tour. For late arrivals, the schedule will be adjusted ahead of time.
- Day 2: Huangshan Mountain HikingVenture Into Huangshan's Ink-Wash Peaks
Take about a 1.5-hour drive to the foot of Mount Huangshan this morning, then ride the scenic shuttle bus to Yungu Temple, and take the Yungu Cableway up the mountain. While ascending, forests fade below, and rock walls and peaks come into view outside the cable car window.
Mount Huangshan is a UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Mixed Heritage site. Its oddly-shaped pines, rocky peaks and sea of clouds provided inspiration for painters and poets. At Begin-to-Believe Peak, you can admire pines rooted in rock cracks and stretching toward deep valleys, while layers of distant peaks unfold like an ink-wash painting before you.
Our customers at Mount Huangshan Head to Cloud Dispelling Pavilion to overlook the West Sea Grand Canyon. Hike down stone steps into the canyon and head back after reaching the First Ring. Stone steps wind between steep rock peaks. You may pause along the trail to look back at the peaks and deep valleys.
If time, weather and energy permit, continue to Heavenly Sea area, Bright Summit and Flying-Over Rock to watch the sunset. Check into your mountain-top hotel afterward.
The Flying-over Rock of Yellow Mountain Warm Tips:
- The hike covers roughly 4-5.6 miles and takes 5-6 hours, with many stone steps. The visit to Bright Summit, Flying-Over Rock and sunset viewing will be adjusted based on on-site conditions.
- Keep large luggage at your downtown hotel. Travel light and pack non-slip shoes, raincoats and warm clothes.
- Day 3: Mount Huangshan & Old StreetWatch Sunrise Over Huangshan And Discover Hui Ink Craftsmanship
Set off early in the morning for Refreshing Terrace to watch the sunrise. The sky slowly brightens, and mountain peaks emerge from the dark. Morning light then falls on rock faces and pine treetops. If you catch a sea of clouds, the summits rise like islands above the mist, popping in and out of sight as clouds flow past.
Mount Huangshan Monkey Watching the Sea After breakfast, visit Dawn Pavilion, Lion Peak and Monkey Watching the Sea. This rock formation resembles a sitting monkey facing the valley, with rolling peaks spreading out behind and beneath it. You can spot it with your guide’s help. Then take the cableway downhill and return to Huangshan City.
Take a relaxed walk through Tunxi Old Street in the late afternoon. Stone-paved paths stretch alongside the shops. Dark eaves, wooden storefronts and hanging signs line the street. You can pause to observe architectural details along the way.
Walk along Stone-paved paths at Huangshan Tunxi Ancient Street Proceed to Hu Kaiwen Ink-stick Factory to learn about the production of Huizhou inksticks. These small inksticks feature varied shapes and delicate patterns. As a material for calligraphy and painting, inksticks must be ground with water before use. See how ink is made and discover the craftsmen's traditional skills embedded in classic Chinese writing.
Optional Activity: Huizhou-style dinner.
Taste local dishes including hairy tofu (fermented tofu covered with fine white mould). The menu can be adjusted to suit your taste and dietary requirements.
- Day 4: Huangshan to WuyuanSee the Autumn Harvest Display in Huangling And Marvel at Wunüzhou By Night
A 1.5-hour drive will transfer you from Huangshan to Huangling, then take the cableway up into the mountain village. Houses are built layer upon layer along the hillside, with terraced fields unfolding in the distance following the contours of the mountain.
Stop by the Cao Clan Ancestral Hall and admire the wood carvings and plaques. Head to the Sun-drying Workshop, where seasonal crops are spread out on bamboo trays. In autumn, the village turns into a patchwork of red chili peppers and golden corn against the white walls and grey tiles — it's the local way of drying the harvest.
Overlook the terraced fields from Viewing Platform No. 3, then cross the Leixin Bridge to Viewing Platform No. 2 for a panoramic view of the village. In spring when flowers bloom, golden rapeseed blossoms spread across the slopes.
Wuyuan Huangling Village with golden rapeseed blossoms in spring Continue to Wunvzhou Resort to enjoy the illuminated architecture and reflections on the water.
