Day-by-day Itinerary

1. Day 1: Guilin Arrival

   Welcome to Guilin, where the most beautiful scenery in China awaits you. Your private driver will pick you up at the agreed upon location and escort you to your hotel in the city for check-in. In the evening, you will enjoy a grand welcome dinner.

2. Day 2: Guilin City to Rice Terraces
   Hike Longji Rice Terraces, Experience Bamboo Tube Rice Cooking and Rice Field Fishing

   After breakfast at hotel, your guide will take you to Longji Rice Terraces Scenic Area. The ride takes about 2 hours, during which you’ll be introduced to some basic terraced field information. Longji Terraced Fields were first built in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) by the ancestors of the Zhuang and Yao ethnic groups who cultivated them on steep slopes. The rice terraces have a history of over 650 years since large-scale development during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

   

   After arriving, walk through the rice fields which appear as golden wave patterns when viewed from a distance. Visit a local family and learn how to make Rice Cooked in Bamboo Tubes with a long history under the guidance of the host. The cooking method with its name describes how bamboo tubes are used to prepare glutinous rice and meat and vegetables and other ingredients. The family prepares a meal which includes traditional specialty foods from their ethnic background for you to enjoy.

   In the afternoon, you will be arranged to fish with local farmers in rice fields. If you happen to come here during the rice harvest time, you can experience harvesting rice using a sickle. Local farmers will teach you the correct posture. Return to Guilin in the evening. Stay at a hotel in Guilin at night.

3. Day 3: Guilin to Yangshuo
   Camp Riverside with Barbecue and Cormorant Fishing Show

   This morning, drive for 2 hours to Xianggong Mountain located in Xingping Town, Yangshuo County, on the west bank of the Li River. This is an excellent point overlooking the panoramic view of the "First Bay of the Li River". There are five wooden observation decks on the mountaintop. Walk up to the top to admire the magnificent karst landscape around you: the peaks are arranged in an orderly manner, Li River winds and flows, light and shadow, sea of clouds, sunrise and colorful clouds blend together.

   Have a light hike from Nine Horses Painting Mountain to Xingping Town. This section is the most essence of the Lijiang River. Use your imagination and see how many horses you can discover. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Xingping Ancient Town.

   

   In the afternoon, try to manually set up your own tent campsite by the river and enjoy a barbecue dinner. Afterwards, your tour guide will explain the lifestyle of local fishermen to you. To further understand, watch a local cormorant fishing by a tributary of the Li River.

4. Day 4: Yangshuo Local Experience
   Bamboo Raft on Yulong River, Paint Traditional Fans, Experience Tea Picking

   Today is a slow paced and in-depth day to experience the rural scenery of Yangshuo. In the morning, take a bamboo raft along the Yulong River to visit Fuli Bridge, a single arch stone bridge with a history of over 500 years. It, together with tranquil countryside, clear river water and distant karst peaks, constitutes a classic Chinese classical landscape painting.

   Afterwards, you will be guided through the process of drawing fans in a workshop. Learn from local artists how to draw landscapes on a paper fan. Your masterpiece will be taken home as a souvenir.

   

   After lunch, visit one of the most beautiful tea gardens in Guilin at Qixing Tea Plantation. Learn how to select tea leaves that can be picked and how to pick them correctly. After picking tea, watch the local tea farmers stir fry tea. You still have the opportunity to taste different types of tea. After the experience is over, you will be transferred to the hotel in Yangshuo to check in.

5. Day 5: Yangshuo Outdoor Adventure
   Cycle through Countryside and Explore an Underground Limestone Water Cave

   Cycling is undoubtedly the best way to immerse oneself in the picturesque scenery of Yangshuo. In the morning, you will ride for about 2 hours (adjustable according to the student's physical strength). Follow the cycling guide and along the rural roads. In the distance, you can see towering karst mountains, breathe fresh air and stop in a safe place to see local farmers farming. Arrive at a specific area to enjoy a picnic lunch.

   Afternoon is adventure time. You will explore a water cave and delve deep underground to understand limestone landforms. An experienced English-speaking coach will accompany you throughout the entire process and provide you with a detailed introduction to the rock structure in the cave. After the experience, return to Yangshuo hotel.

6. Day 6: Yangshuo to Guilin, Departure
