Day-by-day Itinerary

1. Day 1: Shanghai to Huangshan by High-speed Train
   Step Back in Time in Tunxi Old Street and Learn to Make Traditional Ink Sticks

   Welcome to join our 3-day Shanghai to Huangshan tour!

   A local driver will pick you up at the hotel in Shanghai city center, and then see you off at the railway station for a high-speed train to Huangshan. Suggested train: G7313/09:16-12:02

   After a 3-hour ride, you’ll arrive in Huangshan. The private guide will meet you warmly in the railway station, and escort you to the hotel for check-in.

   Right after lunch, start the visit in Huangshan from Tunxi Old Street. The main street stretches from the antique stone archway at the east entrance, lined with flourishing tea shops, traditional Chinese medicine stores, pen and ink shops, and snack stalls.

   Randomly walk into a back alley and you’ll see the true daily life scenes and courtyard arrangements of local residents.

   

   Chinese art enthusiasts will love the next stop - Hu Kaiwen Ink Factory. Witness the process of making ink stick and learn how to grind it on an inkstone.

   We’ll transfer you to the hotel after the visit.

   Optional Activities:

   • Tunxi Old Street: Make your own ink brush. Go through the key processes including selecting hair, combing and evening the hair, and binding the brush head. Reward yourself with a private ink brush engraved with your name.
   • Hu Kaiwen Ink Factory: Learn tohammer ink paste and make an ink stick under the guidance of a

2. Day 2: Huangshan Village & Yellow Mountain
   Appreciate the Hui-style Architecture in Hongcun & Embark on a Hike in Yellow Mountain

   Not far from Huangshan, there are many well-preserved ancient villages. Hongcun Village is one of the masterpieces representing the zenith of local architecture and a World Cultural Heritage site.

   Discover the best spots for picturesque village photography. The gray tiles, white walls and horse-head gables make perfect backgrounds. The most classic photogenic sights are the reflections of the bridge on the South Lake and surrounding buildings & red lanterns on the Moon Pond.

   Step into the residential buildings, for example, Chengzhi Hall, to enjoy the delicate wooden carvings.

   

   Then head for Yellow Mountain, the highlight of this journey. An old saying goes: “The Five Sacred Mountains are the best in China, but Yellow Mountain dwarfs them all”. This is enough to prove its status in the hearts of Chinese people.

   At Yungu Station, a cable car will take you into the Beihai Scenic Area, passing over rugged rocks and bushy pines. It stops at Bai’eling Station, where the hike to Shixin Peak officially starts. Along the way, pass the famous Black Tiger Pine (an approximately 700-year-old tree shaped like a black tiger) and a pine resembling an upside-down brush pen.

   At Paiyun Pavilion, gaze deep into the spectacular scenery in the Xihai Grand Canyon. Adjust the hiking itinerary based on your physical strength. If you have the plan of travelling deep into the canyon, continue the hiking. Towering peaks and pines with various postures are worth your time. It takes approximately 3 hours to fulfil the first and second loop lines and return.

   

   Optional Activities in Hongcun Village:

   Learn the skills of paper folding, pattern drawing and paper cutting at a workshop guided by a professional artist.

   Tips for Hiking in Yellow Mountain:

   • Be sure to wear anti-slip, water-proof hiking shoes or sneakers. An alpenstock can greatly help to reduce pressure on the knees (available for rent at 5RMB at the mountain foot).
   • You can take a vacuum cup for the free hot water at some supply stations on the mountain.

3. Day 3: Huangshan Back to Shanghai by Bullet Train
   Gaze Upon the Legendary Peaks and Lifelike Rocks on Mount Huangshan

   Get up early in the morning. If the weather is fine, go outside to catch the splendid sunrise. Then return to the hotel for breakfast.

   Our adventure continues after breakfast. Take a look at the iconic wonder - Sky-Flying Rock. Ascend to Guangmingding Peak, the second highest peak on Yellow Mountain, which offers a sweeping view of the peaks rolling like waves.

   

   On the way to Bai’eling Cable Car Station, drop by the Lion Peak to watch the famous sight of “Monkey Watching the Sea”. It is a lifelike stone resembling a monkey squatting on the mountain and gazing at the sea of clouds.

   After the hike, go down the mountain by a cable car. Your private driver has been waiting ahead of time at the mountain foot. He will take you to the railway station to catch a high-speed train to Shanghai. Suggested train: G902/17:09-19:43

   Upon arrival, a chauffeured car will send you to the hotel, marking the end of this 3-day Shanghai to Huangshan tour.
