Take a leisurely ride on a vintage train through a sea of birch forests, climb to the height of the Ergun Wetlands, and look down upon the magnificent natural scenery—a breathtaking panorama where meadows and birch forests intertwine.

Hold a handful of moss to feed the gentle reindeer, visit China’s last hunter tribe, listen to stories of the Evenki nomadic culture, and experience the unique charm of the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.

Day-by-day Itinerary
- Day 1: Arrival in Hailar
Welcome to your 5-day tour of the Hulunbuir Grasslands! Please fly to Hailar airport on your own. Your private tour guide provides 24-hour airport pickup service.
Arriving before 5:00 p.m., you have more free time to explore the city.
Note: Summer (JulyāAugust) and fall (September) are the best times to join this tour.
Recommended Activity:
In Hailar, it gets completely dark after 8:00 p.m. Take a stroll through the night market frequented by localsāthe Hexi Yanhe Road Night Market. Itās very lively, with occasional performances, and you can enjoy local beer and specialty snacks while taking in the evening breeze.
- Day 2: Hulunbuir to GenheSee vast grasslands, winding rivers & wetlands, and experience authentic Mongolian culture
After 1-hour driving time, arrive at the Hulunbuir Grassland, one of the worldās three great grasslands, known as the āKingdom of Pastures.ā From July to August, the grassland is a sea of emerald green, dotted with wildflowers. With an average daytime temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, itās a very comfortable and ideal destination to escape the summer heat.
A bird's-eye view of the grasslands and rivers Climb the cliff to overlook the classic scenery of the Morigele Riverās eighteen bends winding through the grasslands. Take a leisurely horseback ride across the grasslands or visit a Mongolian yurt to drink salty milk tea, don a Mongolian robe, and take photos.
Afterward, head to the Ergun Wetlands, Chinaās best-preserved alpine wetland. From June to September, you can see the green fields and white birch forests complementing each other beautifully. Take a sightseeing bus to the mountaintop to enjoy a panoramic view of the river bends, grasslands, and forests all in one frame.
The Ergun Wetland, hailed as āAsiaās Number One Wetlandā Walking along the wooden boardwalk, you might see migratory birds like red-crowned cranes and swans. Enjoy high-level negative oxygen ion air and relax your body and mind.
After the tour, drive about 2 hours to Genhe Cityāknown as āChinaās Cold Poleāāfor an overnight stay.
Travel Tips:
The temperature on the grassland varies greatly between day and night. Make sure to bring a windbreaker. The ultraviolet rays on the plateau are quite strong, so sunscreen and sunglasses are essential.
If you want to take stunning photos, wear solid-colored clothingāsuch as white or yellowāto create a striking visual contrast with the greenĀ of the grasslands.
- Day 3: Genhe to ShiweiFeed friendly reindeer and glimpse authentic Evenki culture, ride a forest train
Today, your tour guide will take you to visit Chinaās only reindeer-herding Evenki tribeāthe Aoluguya Reindeer Tribeāwhich is hailed as āChinaās Last Hunting Tribe.ā
Buy a basket of reindeer moss and enter the reindeer enclosure, where the gentle reindeer will nuzzle the palms of your hands with their soft, wet noses, begging for food.
Visit a traditional Evenki conical yurt to learn about the reindeer-herding peopleās nomadic culture and their intricate birch bark craftsmanship.
Evenki conical yurts scattered across the grasslands Head toĀ Moerdaoga National Forest ParkĀ to ride a vintage diesel train through dense forests of white birch and larch, stopping along the way at Red Bean Hill, Reindeer Trail, and the observation deck. This eliminates the need for strenuous hiking and is suitable for both the elderly and children.
Visitors look out over the national park from a wooden observation deck From Yimu Jiuling (One-Glance-Nine-Ridges) in Moerdaoga Forest, you can overlook the lush, layered peaks of the Greater Khingan Range.
After these activities, drive to Shiwei for the night. Stay at a log cabin and enjoy a Russian-style dinner (mashed potatoes, pickled cucumbers, etc.).
Travel Tips:
In the forest area around the Aoluguya Reindeer Herding Tribe, there are many mosquitoes. Remember to bring mosquito repellent and try to wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants.
Summer and fall are the best times to visit Moerdogga National Forest Park; from late September to early October, you can see spectacular autumn foliage.
- Day 4: Shiwei to HeishantouExperience Russian-Style Culture in China
Begin at the Enhe Russian Ethnic Township, Chinaās only settlement of the Russian ethnic group.
There, see log houses built with traditional mortise-and-tenon joints, painted in shades of blue and yellow and featuring carved window framesāa classic Russian style.
Russian-style āLog Cabinā dwellings with colorful roofs and white windows The tour guide will take you into a Russian familyās home to learn how to make āDaliebaāāa type of Russian bread. The process starts with kneading the dough, followed by proofing, shaping, brushing with egg wash, and baking. Once baked, enjoy it with blueberry jam and fruit tea.
As the sun falls, take a stroll along the river with your camera to capture the silhouettes of the birch forest and the Russian village.
After the tour, drive to the yurt at Heishantou for the night.
- Day 5: Heishantou to Hailar, Departure
Youāre free to spend the morning as you like. Try taking photos in Mongolian costumes, feed the sheep, watch wrestling, learn archery, or take a mini oil barrel train.
Afterward, your driver will take you to Hailar Airport (about a 2-hour drive) to catch your departure flight.
