Day-by-day Itinerary

Collapse All
  1. Welcome to your 5-day tour of the Hulunbuir Grasslands! Please fly to Hailar airport on your own. Your private tour guide provides 24-hour airport pickup service.

Arriving before 5:00 p.m., you have more free time to explore the city.

Note: Summer (July–August) and fall (September) are the best times to join this tour.

    Recommended Activity:

In Hailar, it gets completely dark after 8:00 p.m. Take a stroll through the night market frequented by locals—the Hexi Yanhe Road Night Market. It’s very lively, with occasional performances, and you can enjoy local beer and specialty snacks while taking in the evening breeze.

  2. After 1-hour driving time, arrive at the Hulunbuir Grassland, one of the world’s three great grasslands, known as the ā€œKingdom of Pastures.ā€ From July to August, the grassland is a sea of emerald green, dotted with wildflowers. With an average daytime temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, it’s a very comfortable and ideal destination to escape the summer heat.

A bird's-eye view of the grasslands and rivers

Climb the cliff to overlook the classic scenery of the Morigele River’s eighteen bends winding through the grasslands. Take a leisurely horseback ride across the grasslands or visit a Mongolian yurt to drink salty milk tea, don a Mongolian robe, and take photos.

Afterward, head to the Ergun Wetlands, China’s best-preserved alpine wetland. From June to September, you can see the green fields and white birch forests complementing each other beautifully. Take a sightseeing bus to the mountaintop to enjoy a panoramic view of the river bends, grasslands, and forests all in one frame.

    Ergun Wetland
The Ergun Wetland, hailed as ā€œAsia’s Number One Wetlandā€

Walking along the wooden boardwalk, you might see migratory birds like red-crowned cranes and swans. Enjoy high-level negative oxygen ion air and relax your body and mind.

After the tour, drive about 2 hours to Genhe City—known as ā€œChina’s Cold Poleā€ā€”for an overnight stay.

    Travel Tips:

The temperature on the grassland varies greatly between day and night. Make sure to bring a windbreaker. The ultraviolet rays on the plateau are quite strong, so sunscreen and sunglasses are essential.

If you want to take stunning photos, wear solid-colored clothing—such as white or yellow—to create a striking visual contrast with the greenĀ of the grasslands.

  3. Today, your tour guide will take you to visit China’s only reindeer-herding Evenki tribe—the Aoluguya Reindeer Tribe—which is hailed as ā€œChina’s Last Hunting Tribe.ā€

Buy a basket of reindeer moss and enter the reindeer enclosure, where the gentle reindeer will nuzzle the palms of your hands with their soft, wet noses, begging for food.

Visit a traditional Evenki conical yurt to learn about the reindeer-herding people’s nomadic culture and their intricate birch bark craftsmanship.

Head toĀ Moerdaoga National Forest ParkĀ to ride a vintage diesel train through dense forests of white birch and larch, stopping along the way at Red Bean Hill, Reindeer Trail, and the observation deck. This eliminates the need for strenuous hiking and is suitable for both the elderly and children.

From Yimu Jiuling (One-Glance-Nine-Ridges) in Moerdaoga Forest, you can overlook the lush, layered peaks of the Greater Khingan Range.

After these activities, drive to Shiwei for the night. Stay at a log cabin and enjoy a Russian-style dinner (mashed potatoes, pickled cucumbers, etc.).

    Travel Tips:

In the forest area around the Aoluguya Reindeer Herding Tribe, there are many mosquitoes. Remember to bring mosquito repellent and try to wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants.

Summer and fall are the best times to visit Moerdogga National Forest Park; from late September to early October, you can see spectacular autumn foliage.

  4. Begin at the Enhe Russian Ethnic Township, China’s only settlement of the Russian ethnic group.

There, see log houses built with traditional mortise-and-tenon joints, painted in shades of blue and yellow and featuring carved window frames—a classic Russian style.

Colorful wooden cottages with red and green metal roofs, white trim, and potted plants along a bright path in front of them.

The tour guide will take you into a Russian family’s home to learn how to make ā€œDaliebaā€ā€”a type of Russian bread. The process starts with kneading the dough, followed by proofing, shaping, brushing with egg wash, and baking. Once baked, enjoy it with blueberry jam and fruit tea.

As the sun falls, take a stroll along the river with your camera to capture the silhouettes of the birch forest and the Russian village.

After the tour, drive to the yurt at Heishantou for the night.

  5. You’re free to spend the morning as you like. Try taking photos in Mongolian costumes, feed the sheep, watch wrestling, learn archery, or take a mini oil barrel train.

Afterward, your driver will take you to Hailar Airport (about a 2-hour drive) to catch your departure flight.

    Special Note:

We recommend booking a flight departing after 4:00 p.m. to avoid disrupting your onward itinerary.
