Day-by-day Itinerary
- Day 1: Nanjing Arrival & Historic Heritage ExplorationImperial Tombs, Confucian Culture and the lively Qinhuai River
Your journey begins as your local guide greets you at the airport or train station and transfers you to your hotel. After check-in, head to Purple Mountain to explore some of Nanjing's best-known historic sites.
Start atĀ Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, located on the southern slope of the mountain. It is the final resting place of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the revolutionary leader who played a pivotal role in overthrowing the Qing dynasty and ending imperial rule in China.
Climb the 392 steps to the Sacrificial Hall at the summit, passing the Bo'ai Archway, Tomb Gate and Stele Pavilion along the way.
Inside the hall, you'll see Sun Yat-sen's motto, "Tianxia wei gong" ("The World Belongs to All"), inscribed above the entrance, and a white marble seated statue of him at the center.Ā From the peak, you can also enjoy a panoramic viewĀ of Nanjing city.
392 steps and memorial hall of Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum Continue to Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Walk along the 1.8-km Sacred Way lined with 12 pairs of mythical beast sculptures, slow down to explore the majestic palaces and towers in the main mausoleum complex, take in the surrounding greenery and spot the sika deer that roam the grounds.
Drive to the Confucius Temple, boastingĀ a history of over 1,000 years. Inside the temple, you can see paintings and bronze statues of Confucius and learn about his life and teachings through the historical displays and relief artworks.

Wander along the riverbank toĀ seeĀ the traditional buildings reflected in the water,Ā taste local snacks, such as fried beef dumpling and spiced beans, browse shops and pick upĀ some souvenirs. At night, the area comes aliveĀ as the buildings and riverbanks are illuminated.
Optional Activity: Take a painted pleasure boat to appreciate the night view along Qinhuai Rvier from the water.
- Day 2: Cultural Treasures & DepartureVast Collections at Nanjing Museum and A Stroll Along the Ancient City Wall
Learn about the cityās history and the evolution of Chinese art at Nanjing Museum this morning. Discover its extensive collection, including bronze ware, jade, ceramics, silk, calligraphy and paintings.
Next, visit Zhonghua Gate, the largest surviving gate of Nanjing Ancient City Wall. Walk through the gate towers, barbicans and ramps to see how the complex was designed to defendĀ the city and glimpse its remarkable architectural ingenuity and scale.
Ascend the Ancient City Wall for a short walk to admire the remaining watchtowers and historic brickwork. Standing on the top, you can also overlook the Laomendong historic district and Qinhuai River.
Finally, the driver will escort you to the airport or train station for your onward journey.
Plan B: Tickets for Nanjing Museum can be difficult to secure, especially during holidays and peak season. If we are unable toĀ reserve tickets, we will visit theĀ Imperial Examination Museum of China instead. Through the exhibitions, you'll learn how the civil service examinationĀ system was organized and how it affected Chinese society and education.
For history lovers, Zhonghua Gate is a highlight. But for tourists who prefer scenic views, we can arrange for you to walk alongĀ theĀ Taicheng Section of the city wall, where you will see Xuanwu Lake on one side and Jiming Temple and Zifeng Tower skyline on the other, forming a striking contrast betweenĀ historic and modern Nanjing.
