Day-by-day Itinerary

Collapse All
  1. Your journey begins as your local guide greets you at the airport or train station and transfers you to your hotel. After check-in, head to Purple Mountain to explore some of Nanjing's best-known historic sites.

Start atĀ Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, located on the southern slope of the mountain. It is the final resting place of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the revolutionary leader who played a pivotal role in overthrowing the Qing dynasty and ending imperial rule in China.

Climb the 392 steps to the Sacrificial Hall at the summit, passing the Bo'ai Archway, Tomb Gate and Stele Pavilion along the way.

Inside the hall, you'll see Sun Yat-sen's motto, "Tianxia wei gong" ("The World Belongs to All"), inscribed above the entrance, and a white marble seated statue of him at the center.Ā From the peak, you can also enjoy a panoramic viewĀ of Nanjing city.

Continue to Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Walk along the 1.8-km Sacred Way lined with 12 pairs of mythical beast sculptures, slow down to explore the majestic palaces and towers in the main mausoleum complex, take in the surrounding greenery and spot the sika deer that roam the grounds.

Drive to the Confucius Temple, boastingĀ a history of over 1,000 years. Inside the temple, you can see paintings and bronze statues of Confucius and learn about his life and teachings through the historical displays and relief artworks.

At night, the area comes aliveĀ as the buildings and riverbanks are illuminated.

Optional Activity: Take a painted pleasure boat to appreciate the night view along Qinhuai Rvier from the water.

For history lovers, Zhonghua Gate is a highlight.
