One journey reveals two very different sides of China. Over 5 days, explore Shanghai’s historic gardens and modern skyline before heading to Mount Fanjing for mountain trails, rock formations, and Buddhist sites.
Begin in Shanghai with a glimpse into China’s past. Visit Shanghai Museum and wander through the classical landscapes of Yu Garden. Take in panoramic views from Shanghai Tower, stroll along Nanjing Road and the Bund, and look across the Huangpu River toward Pudong’s skyscrapers.
Then fly to Tongren in Guizhou and continue to Mount Fanjing. Hike along mountain trails to Mushroom Rock and Old Golden Summit. Along the way, pass Buddhist sites that reflect the mountain’s long religious history.

Highlights of this tour
Explore one of Shanghai’s best-known classical gardens, Yu Garden. Walk among pavilions, rockeries, ponds, and winding corridors, and notice how each courtyard frames a different view.

Take the high-speed elevator to the 118th-floor observation deck of Shanghai Tower for a 360-degree view over Lujiazui, the Huangpu River, and Shanghai’s sprawling skyline.

Look out over forest-covered slopes and rugged peaks of Mount Fanjing during the cableway ride. Continue hiking to Mushroom Rock, one of the mountain’s most recognizable natural landmarks then head toward Old Golden Summit.

Day-by-day Itinerary
- Day 1: Shanghai Arrival
Welcome to Shanghai! If you arrive at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, your guide will accompany you on the Maglev to Longyang Road Station.
The ride takes about 8 minutes, with trains currently reaching speeds of up to 300 kilometers per hour. At Longyang Road Station, your private driver will be waiting to transfer you and your guide to the hotel.
After check-in, enjoy the rest of the day at your own pace.

- The Maglev experience is available only for guests arriving at Shanghai Pudong International Airport during its operating hours. The actual arrangement will depend on your flight arrival time.
- If you arrive at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport or outside the Maglev’s operating hours, you will be transferred directly to your hotel by private vehicle.
Recommended Activity (Optional): Spend the evening watching a Shanghai acrobatic show featuring aerial acts, balancing performances and other high-skill routines with modern lighting and stage effects.
- Day 2: Shanghai HighlightsDiscover Shanghai’s heritage and modern skyline
Your guide and driver will meet you in the hotel lobby this morning. Start from the Shanghai Museum where you can explore a wide range of cultural relics, including ancient Chinese bronzes, ceramics, calligraphy, paintings, and sculptures.
Next, visit Yu Garden. Built during the Jiajing period (1522–1566) of the Ming Dynasty, this classic Jiangnan garden features elegant pavilions, winding ponds, rockeries, and traditional landscaping. Adjacent to the garden, the City God Temple area is a good place to sample traditional Shanghai snacks and browse for local souvenirs.
Head to Lujiazui in Pudong and take the elevator to the observation deck on the 118th floor of Shanghai Tower. From the top, enjoy panoramic views of the Huangpu River, the historic buildings along the Bund, and the Lujiazui skyscrapers.
Yuyuan Garden with classic pavilions and architecture Take a stroll along Nanjing Road Road — one of Shanghai's best-known shopping streets. Pass long-established Shanghai brands, department stores, and modern shopping malls. The street is always lively with the fast-paced energy of the city.
Reach the Bund finally where you can walk along the row of historic buildings and enjoy views of Lujiazui's modern skyline across the Huangpu River.
Optional Activity: Take a Huangpu River cruise at your own expense and enjoy Shanghai’s dazzling night views from the water.
- Day 3: Flight to Tongren, Transfer to Mount FanjingSee 1.95-meter-high Jade Buddha Statue
Before leaving Shanghai, spend some time at Jade Buddha Temple. The temple's highlight is a 1.95-meter-high seated statue of Shakyamuni, carved from a single piece of white jade. Take a closer look at its detailed carving then continue to the Reclining Buddha Hall, where you can see a smaller reclining jade Buddha brought from Myanmar.
After the visit, transfer to the airport for your flight to Tongren, Guizhou. The direct flight usually takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Upon arrival, meet your local driver and take a private vehicle to your hotel near the Mount Fanjing scenic area.
- Day 4: Mount Fanjing to Tongren DowntownDiscover unique geological formations and explore Buddhist culture
Mount Fanjing was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List for its unique natural ecosystems and endemic species. It is also an important Buddhist mountain in southwest China boasting many temples and religious sites.
Upon arrival, take the sightseeing bus to the cableway station and ride the cable car up the mountain. From the upper station, continue hiking along the trails to Mushroom Rock, one of Fanjingshan's most recognizable landmarks. Its two rock masses resemble a mushroom, making it one of the mountain’s classic photo stops.
From here, go up to Old Golden Summit, which rises to 2,493 meters where you can look across toward Red Cloud Golden Summit and the surrounding ridges.
The Mushroom Stone at Fanjing Mountain was formed about 820 million years ago Along the way, pass Wanming Cave, the Buddha Worship Platform, Pudu Square, and Cheng’en Temple, where Buddhist halls, worship sites and temple courtyards reflect the long religious history of Fanjing Mountain.
If you still have enough energy, you may climb Red Cloud Golden Summit. Some sections are narrow and steep, with iron chains provided for support. Near the top, the summit splits into two rock peaks, crowned by Buddhist halls and linked by a bridge.
Note: Access to Old Golden Summit and Red Cloud Golden Summit depends on the weather, trail conditions, scenic-area operations, and your physical condition. Your guide will adjust the route accordingly.
After the tour, transfer you to downtown Tongren and check in at your hotel for the night.
- Day 5: Tongren Departure
Depending on your departure schedule, your guide and driver will transfer you to Tongren Airport or the railway station for your onward journey.
Transportation Tips:
Tongren has both air and rail connections, making it convenient to continue to other destinations in southwest and central China. Depending on the current schedule, you can travel onward to cities such as Guiyang, Chongqing, Changsha, and Zhangjiajie.
