- Day 1: Shanghai to Suzhou by High-speed TrainWater Taxi Ride, Classical Gardens & Historic Streets
In the morning, your driver will pick you up at your Shanghai hotel lobby and take you to the railway station for the high-speed train to Suzhou, about a 30-minute ride.
After meeting your local guide and driver at the station, take a water taxiĀ to Changmen Water Gate dock, about 15 minutes away. As the boat moves along the canals, you can see riverside residences with white walls and black tiles, stone bridges, and the waterway views up close.
Take a water taxi at Suzhou Railway Station Disembark at the 2,500-year-old Changmen Water Gate, part of Suzhou's historic water-gate system. The area is known for the meeting of several canals ā often described locally as five waterways.Ā GoĀ up to the top for views of Beisi Pagoda, Tiger Hill Pagoda, and, in the distance, the Gate of the Orient.
Walk to Shantang Street, a historic street built in the Tang period (618-907) under Bai Juyi (a celebrated Tang poet) and later developed as a canal-side thoroughfare. Stroll along the stone-paved road by the canal and see traditional buildings, temples, memorial archways, bridges and small shops.
Visit the Bai Juyi Memorial HallĀ to learn about the streetās history, then capture a view of the surrounding area at Xinmin Bridge. If you want,Ā try some local snacks at the nearby Xinmin Bridge Vegetable Market, such as fried dumplings and plum-blossom cake.
Suzhou Lingering Garden in summer Move to the Lingering Garden, one of Suzhou's four famous classical gardens. Wander through the winding corridors to admire its elegant halls, lattice windows, rockeries, pavilions and bonsai gardens. From Keting Pavilion, you can look out over the whole garden.
Tiger HillĀ is the final stop. Walk along the path to see the leaning Yunyan Pagoda, the narrow Sword Pool with cliff inscriptions, Thousand-Man Stone, the beamless Duanliang Hall and Su-style bonsai at Wanjin Villa.

- Day 2: Suzhou Back to Shanghai by High-Speed TrainSuzhouās Tea Culture, Ancient Temples & Villages
Drive about 1 hour to Dongshan Town, part of Suzhou's Dongting tea-growing area and known for Biluochun tea. First, visit the Jiangnan Tea Culture MuseumĀ to learn about the history, origin and production techniques of Biluochun tea and see tea ware fromĀ different periods.
If you visit in March, you may also try tea picking and basic processing, depending on the season and the plantation schedule.
Head to Bao'an TempleĀ on Dongshan. Walk around the quiet temple grounds and see the traditional buildings and old cypress trees. If arranged in advance, talk with temple staffĀ in the teahouse, drink tea, and learn about the tea ceremony and the temple's history.
