Day-by-day Itinerary

Collapse All
  1. Upon landing at Xi'an Airport, your guide will be waiting for you at the airport exit. Then, the guide will arrange a private transfer to take you to your hotel in the city centre. You are free to explore the city at your leisure for the rest of the day.

    Suggestions for Your City Exploration:

Wander through the Grand Tang Dynasty Ever Bright City — a vibrant 2.1-kilometre-long pedestrian street. Enjoy the spectacular live performances and interactive activities. In particular, don't forget to check out the hugely popular Tumbler Lady performance!

  2. Start your journey with the largest pit, Pit 1 of the Terracotta Army, where you can see over 6,000 clay figurines neatly arranged.

The kneeling archer figurines in Pit 2 are exquisitely crafted, with even the hair strands and the stitches on the soles clearly visible.

Pit 3 serves as the command center. It is the smallest pit, yet it is the brain of the entire military formation. The figures here are arranged in a disciplined military formation, accompanied by a chariot drawn by four warhorses, vividly depicting a scene of military command within the Qin army.

Also on display are bronze chariots and horses and other Qin dynasty artifacts, allowing you to witness the exquisite craftsmanship of Qin artisans (221 BC–207 BC).

Optional Activity: After witnessing the grand underground military formation of the Terracotta Army, have you ever wondered how these clay figurines, each with a unique expression, were created? Try an intangible cultural heritage handmade experience — making a mini Terracotta Warrior.

When returning to the city center, you will head to the Ancient City Wall, the most complete city wall in China. Take a stroll along the top to take in the panoramic views of modern Xi'an.

We highly recommend renting a bicycle (at your own expense) for a relaxing ride. Your guide will be happy to help plan your riding route, and the duration is completely flexible!

Visit the Bell and Drum Tower Square, located at the very center of the city, and a landmark of Xi'an.

Continue on foot for another 5 minutes to reach the Muslim Quarter, where you can find many local specialties and authentic local snacks. You can enjoy some cured beef and various noodles (at your own expense).

Tucked away in the bustling alleys, your guide will take you to visit the Great Mosque. Unlike typical mosques, you will find it a Chinese-style palace garden complex without Arab-style domes. Inside the courtyard, you can also admire a large number of precious steles.

After the visit, your guide will transfer you back to your hotel.

  3. As soon as you enter the Xi'an Museum scenic area, the first thing to catch your eye is the towering ancient trees. Walking along the central axis of the area, you will admire delicate stone pillars, stone Buddhas, and stone lions that reflect folk traditions.

Inside the museum, you can see a vast collection of precious artifacts from the Zhou, Qin, Han, Tang, and other dynasties. The most famous pieces include the Tang Sancai Flying Horse (Tang Tri-color Glazed Ceramics) and numerous Tang dynasty ladies figurines.

In the same area, you can get a close look at the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, a multi-eave square brick pagoda, observe the cracks on its body, and learn about the unique architectural wisdom that allowed it to 'heal' cracks during past earthquakes.

After that, head to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda Square. Here, you can not only look up at the grandeur of this thousand-year-old pagoda, but also enjoy Asia's largest matrix musical fountain (usually the first show is from 12:00 to 12:10 PM).

Next, transfer to Yongxingfang Food Street, one of the three most popular food streets in Xi'an. Besides tasting one-stop local snacks from Guanzhong (the central region of Shaanxi), Northern Shaanxi, and Southern Shaanxi, you can also experience folk performances such as Qin opera, shadow puppetry, and the Bowl-Breaking Wine ritual (at your own expense).

Today's last stop is Shuyuanmen Ancient Culture Street. Along the street, there are over a hundred shops and stalls where you can see old artisans writing calligraphy with brushes, painting, or carving seals on the spot. If interested, you can pay to customize a fan with your name on it or have your name engraved on a seal.

  4. Today, your private English-speaking guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 AM. And drive you for about 2 hours to arrive at Mount Hua.

Take the sightseeing vehicle to the cable car station, then board the cabin. Along the way, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and listen to your guide recount the stories and legends of this famous mountain. Next, arrive at the North Peak. The tour guide will recommend specific visiting routes based on your physical condition and your preferences.

Enjoy some free time to explore. You can visit the Taoist temples on the mountain and check out famous carvings, such as the “Huashan Sword Discussion Platform” stone tablet, the legendary site of the martial arts duel from novels.

Afterwards, return to the Huashan North Peak Cableway station and take the cable car and shuttle bus back along the same route. You will then meet your driver at the designated point to return to the hotel.

Friendly Reminder: Prices at the restaurants on the mountain are relatively high, so we strongly recommend that you bring some snacks and bottled water during the trip.

  5. Your private driver will meet you in the hotel lobby at approximately 6:00 AM and take you to Xi’an North Station, where you can board the high-speed rail to Luoyang.

Upon arrival in Luoyang, a local guide will meet you at the station exit and take you to visit the Longmen Grottoes, one of China's three great Buddhist grottoes. Hailed as a treasure trove of ancient stone carving art, the site features nearly 110,000 stone carvings, ranging in height from 2 centimetres to 17.14 metres.

The most spectacular is the Vairocana Buddha, representing the pinnacle of Tang Dynasty sculpture art. Its ears alone measure 1.9 meters long. According to folk legend, the statue was modeled after Empress Wu Zetian, the only female emperor in Chinese history.

Next, head to the Luoyang Museum, which houses over 11,000 artefacts. Highlights include Chinese Shang and Zhou dynasty bronze ware, Han and Wei dynasty terracotta figurines, and stone inscriptions from other periods. You can also admire exquisite exhibits such as terracotta figurines of court ladies and dancers, Tang dynasty tricoloured horses and camels, and imperial gold, silver and jade artefacts.

  6. Today, you’ll first visit Guanlin Temple, China’s only sacred site that combines a tomb mound (zhong), a temple (miao), and a forest (lin) dedicated to Guan Gong. Here, you can admire hundreds of stone lions in various poses.

If you look closely, you’ll notice that the branches of the cypress tree in front of the main hall resemble a dragon’s head, while its roots resemble the tail feathers of a phoenix — a unique sight symbolizing good fortune and prosperity.

Next, travel to the famous Shaolin Temple — the birthplace of Chinese kung fu. In the Hall of a Thousand Buddhas, you can see murals depicting 500 Arhats and the brick floor pitted with "holes" worn by monks practicing martial arts.

The pagoda forest, known as the “Museum of Ancient Pagoda Art,” houses over 220 ancient pagodas, which are the tombs of monks from the Tang through Qing dynasties.

To gain a deeper understanding of authentic Shaolin Kung Fu, we’ll arrange a spectacular Kung Fu performance for you!
