1 Day Lijiang Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Hiking Tour

 

The Jade Dragon Snow Mountain hiking tour starts at the beautiful Yuhu Village at the foot of the mountain. The local dwellings are mostly built of stones, with Naxi architectural features. Historical architecture such as the Yulong Academy also shows the history and culture of the Naxi people. Walk along the stone path to admire the clear lake and the magnificent Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the distance.

Also explore the Former Residence of Joseph Rock, an American explorer who lived here for 27 years. He documented a large number of Naxi culture and local plant specimens. There are lots of documents and historical photographs showing Rock’s adventures and research on Naxi culture.

Later embark on a 4-kilometer hike from Yuhu Lake to Sansi River. On the way, you will pass through forests and grasslands. As you continue, you will see expansive meadows and sparkling lakes. Then encounter Bahe, also known as “Frog’s Pool”, is a pool during the rainy season and a small meadow during the dry season.

Climb up the mountainside to reach the Ganheba at an altitude of about 3,600 meters. Here you can enjoy blue lake, blooming wildflowers, and herds of yaks. Near the Ganheba is the Milk River, a stream flowing from the glacier with a distinctive milky white color. Wander along the river to admire the stunning views of the white river and the surrounding mountains.

Then you can take a break and have a simple lunch. Taste local specialties such as yak milk tea or cheese while admiring the serene view.

Continue the hike to a viewpoint for a panoramic view of the snow mountains. Witness the Shanzidou at an altitude of 5,596 meters, which is the highest peak of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Also, overlook the Ganheba and enjoy the picturesque scenery of the clear lake and vast meadows. Afterward, cross the Xuehai, a vast snowy landscape that looks like a sea of snow stretching for miles.

Descend from the heights and enjoy free time in the meadow. Capture the breathtaking views of green grass and white snow. There are some Naxi villages and temples in the distance. Pass through these villages to explore the rich history and culture of the Naxi people. And talk to the locals and learn about the Dongba culture and the religious beliefs of the Naxi people.

After the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain hiking tour, your driver and guide will take you back to the hotel in Lijiang Ancient Town.
