2 Days Xiamen Sightseeing with Tulou

Day-by-day Itinerary

1. Day 1: Xiamen City Highlights
   South Putuo Temple, Hulishan Fortress, Gulangyu Island, Zhongshan Road

   At 08:30, our guide and driver will greet you in your hotel lobby. In the morning we will explore the downtown area. The first destination would be South Putuo Temple. The temple was originally built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and got its first name “Sizhou Temple”. In the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) it was abandoned. In the following Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) the temple was rebuilt and it was preserved till today. Next we will visit Hulishan Fortress. The fortress was built in late 19^th century when China was threatened by foreign invaders.

   

   In the afternoon, we will move to visit Gulangyu Island which stands opposite to Hulishan Fortress in the west. After a 20 minutes ferry, you will set foot on the island and then enjoy your relaxing time. You will visit the largest old villa on the island at Hi Heaven, where you can also enjoy ancient South music performance and traditional puppet show. Shuzhuang Garden will open up a surprising sea view in front of you as you walk amongst its deliberately designed layout with lush plants, corridors, and rock formations. An amazing collection of rare old pianos inside the Piano Museum will walk you through a rough development history of piano. In the late afternoon, you will take a walk on Zhongshan Road for sightseeing and local food exploration.

   When the tour ends, you will be escorted back to your hotel in Xiamen downtown area.

2. Day 2: Xiamen to Yongding Tulou
   Yongding Tulou

   At 08:00 the guide and driver will meet you in your hotel lobby. Then we will drive for about 2.5 minutes to Yongding County to visit the Hongkeng Tulou Complex .

   Hongkeng Tulou Complex with the largest scale and the most advantaged development should be the first option without a doubt if you want to explore Tulou buildings at one-stop.

   Walking forward for 1km from the entrance gate, you will get to the core of Hongkeng Tulou: Zhenchenglou which is famed as “Tulou Prince” due to the combined features of western and Chinese architectural cultures. The mini circular Tulou, Rushenglou by the stream, with the diameter only 17.4m, contrasts sharply with the gigantic Zhengchenglou. The Family Temple of Lin and Tianhou Palace standing at the left and right of Zhenchenglou are also worthy of a leisure visit.

   

   Please never miss the Fuyulou at the other side of the stream is a typical Wufeng Tulou which has unturned eaves like flying phoenix and contains the “five elements” in its construction design. The title of “Potala Palace” of Kuijulou might be exaggerated, but the palatial structures with layer upon layer of eaves indeed make Kuijulou against the hills grander and more splendid.

   After the visit, drive about 2.5 hours back to your hotel in Xiamen.
