The river-port city of Chongqing developed as a docking area for merchants and dock workers who depended on highly spiced food to remove dampness from their bodies while restoring their lost energy.
The intense flavor of Chongqing Jianghu dishes is shaped by these cultural practices. Popular specialties include Laifeng Fish, Spicy Diced Chicken and Maoxuewang (Boiled Blood and Tofu with Spicy Broth), though dishes can be adjusted to suit your spice tolerance.
After dinner, go to Kuixing Tower, a striking landmark that shows Chongqing’s dramatic vertical cityscape. Learn about its cultural background, enjoy sweeping night views, and challenge yourself on the suspended glass skywalk.
