5 Days Xiamen, Tulou & Wuyi Mountain Exploration Tour

Day-by-day Itinerary

1. Day 1: Xiamen Arrival
   South Putuo Temple

   Upon your arrival at Xiamen Airport (please land at Xiamen airport by noon), the local English-speaking guide and driver will pick you up from the exit gate by holding a welcome board with your name.

   Your exploration begins with South Putuo Temple, which is a 1,000 years old Buddhist resort in southern Fujian.

   

   It is not only a popular place for tourists to pray for health and wealth, but also a good place to taste delicious vegetarian food. With the Wulao Peak as background, the temple can also provide a great hiking chance if you have enough time.

   After the visit, drive to a local hotel for check-in.

2. Day 2: Yongding Tulou Tour
   Hongkeng Tulou Complex

   This morning, we will drive about 2.5 hours to visit the Hongkeng Tulou Complex. Nestled in the terraced fields, Hongkeng Tulou Complex boasts various earthen buildings of different dynasties and sizes. Today, you will visit some of the top ones in this scenic spot.

   Zhencheng Lou is one of the most famous ones in this area, which is also widely known as “the prince of tulou”. The Zhencheng Tulou is a perfect mix of Chinese and Western culture, with its outer ring being constructed based on the Chinese Baguo concept, and the inner side being decorated in western style.

   

   Kuiju Building is in the shape of a rectangle, being constructed in a palace structure. To see from a distance, the building looks like the famous Potala Palace.

   The Family Temple of Lin and Tianhou Palace standing on the left and right of the Zhencheng Building are also worthy of a leisure visit.

   At the end of the visit, drive back to Xiamen overnight.

3. Day 3: Gulangyu Island to Wuyi Mountain
   Gulangyu Island, the Sea Heaven, Shuzhuang Garden, Piano Museum, Huandao Road

   Today, you will enjoy a leisure exploration of Gulangyu Island before you head to Wuyi Mountain.

   A 20 minutes ferry ride will take you to Gulangyu Island which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to the numerous historical European consulates and Chinese-style mansions here.

   

   You will visit the largest old villa on the island - the Sea Heaven, where you can also enjoy classical music performances and traditional puppet shows.

   Then head to the Shuzhuang Garden nestled between sea and cliff. Being built in an ingenious layout, the garden is famous for its beautiful seascape hidden in the elegant pavilions, bridges, and rocks. The garden is also home to the world-class Piano Museum where you can meet various time-honored pianos and learn about piano history.

   

   Later, continue your visit to the beautiful island ring road - Huandao Road, and pay a visit to the graceful Yanwu Bridge.

   At end of the visit, you will head to the train station to catch the afternoon high-speed train to Wuyi Mountain. The local driver there will wait at the train station and later transfer you to the local hotel.

4. Day 4: Wuyi Mountain Tour
   Heavenly Tour Peak, Nine-bend Stream, Wuyi Palace, Song Street

   After breakfast, start our discovery of the best essence in Wuyi Mountain.

   First, climb to the top of Heavenly Tour Peak (Tianyou Peak) for a panoramic view of the Danxia mountains, rivers, and forests. If we are lucky, we can get a chance to encounter the sea of clouds that turn the mountainous landscape into a fairyland.

   In the afternoon, a 1.5 hours bamboo raft sailing along the Nine-bend Stream will take you to leisurely enjoy the breathtaking scenery along the banks and to see many hanging boat coffins which is a local ancient funeral culture.

   

   Next is a visit to the Wuyi Palace, an ancient Taoist temple at Wuyi Mountain.

   Next, leisurely wander around Song Street lined with many old-fashioned structures of Song Dynasty styles.

   After the visit, transfer back to your hotel.

5. Day 5: Wuyi Mountain Departure
   Dahongpao Scenic Area, Water Curtain Cave

   Continue your Wuyi Mountain exploration today. After breakfast, head to the Dahongpao Scenic Area, enjoy a leisure stroll around the Dahongpao tea plantations and meet the Dahongpao tea trees hundreds of years old.

   

   Then hike to the Water Curtain Cave to appreciate the awe-inspiring waterfalls pouring from a height of over 100m.

   In the afternoon, head to the train station for departure.

   (If you are planning to take a flight for departure, you can first take a 3-hour train back to Xiamen and fly from Xiamen Gaoqi Airport).
