Day-by-day Itinerary
- Day 1: Xian to Yellow Emperor Mausoleum
In the morning, your guide will pick you up at your hotel located in the center of Xi'an and then drive 200 kilometers (3.5 hours) northward to the Yellow Emperor Mausoleum.
In Chinese folk legends, Yellow Emperor is regarded as the ancestor of the Chinese nation. Since 2006, the memorial ceremony held during the Qingming Festival to honor this legendary figure have become an intangible cultural heritage of China.
The scenic area mainly consists of two parts: Xuanyuan Temple and Yellow Emperor Mausoleum. The tour guide will first take you to visit Xuanyuan Temple. Reach the temple by walking up 95 stone steps. Entering the mountain gate, you can see a tall ancient cypress tree which is said to have been planted by Emperor Huangdi himself for more than 5000 years ago.
Continuing north along the central axis passing through Chengxin Pavilion and Stele Pavilion, you will arrive at the main hallĀ of Xuanyuan Temple, rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty and covers an area of 282 square meters. There are exquisite paintings under the eaves; Inside the niche of the hall, there is a huge stone carved relief of the Yellow Emperor.
Walk north to the Sacrifice Square, which can accommodate 5000 people for sacrificial activities at the same time.
There is a road leading to the mountain on the west side of Xuanyuan Temple. You can see a cypress treeĀ planted on the mountainside on March 7thĀ (the birthday of the Yellow Emperor), 2000. It collected representative soil from 34 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions and special administrative regions for cultivation, expressing the admiration and remembrance for the Yellow Emperor and blessings of all Chinese people in the new century.
The Spirit Way and Sacred WayĀ are important passages into the tomb area, with a total length of 455 meters and 277 stone steps. Along the hiking trail tower ancient cypress trees, totaling over 81600, of which more than 30000 are over a thousand years old. This is the oldest, largest covered and most well preserved ancient cypress group in China.
The end of Sacred Way is the Yellow Emperor Mausoleum. It is surrounded by a green brick wall, 1.6 meters high, painted in red, symbolizing the supreme and mighty. Pass through the gate and climb to the top of the mountain. The mausoleum has a circumference of 48 meters and an area of 200 square meters. The combination of the square platform and the circular tomb has a symbolic meaning of "round sky and square earth".
