Bada Village with Plantations of Tea - Day 2: Hike to Zhanglang, Back to JinghongChallenge Yourself on a Steep Forest Hike through Bulang and Hani Villages
When you get up in the noiseless mountain village, it is possible that a lot of locals have already left for their work in the fields - the farmers here are very early risers. After a simple breakfast prepared at home, take another step towards your mountain hiking adventure, but get ready: the hike for today is way tougher. From a steep valley bottom, the trail goes up along a long and challenging uphill. The difficulty does not mean the journey is monotonous. The way goes through a lush, cooling forest where there is the morning and evening sun filtered through the trees, birds singing, and the smell of herbs and wildflowers.
Your first highlight is a visit to Zhanglang VillageĀ (ē« ęę), a Bulang ethnic community that's been steeped in tea culture for centuries. Here, see about 700 mu of ancient tea trees, not to mention over 4,700 mu of lush tea gardens blanketing the hills all around. Wrapped in untouched old-growth forests, the village feels well preserved - and it's no surprise that Zhanglang was recognized as one of Yunnan's āMost Beautiful Villagesā in 2021.
Zhanglang Village - Home to the Bulang ethnic group After the village exploration, take a gentle hike through farmland, past quiet streams, swaying bamboo groves, and a few minority hamlets. The scenery keeps changing as you gradually toward Xiding TownĀ (脿å®ä¹”), which sits right along the river that marks the natural border with Myanmar. This is real frontier country, home mostly to Hani and Bulang people - a remote corner of Yunnan that feels a world away.
At the end of your trek, your driver will pick you up for the return journey to Jinghong.
Note:Ā If preferred, you may shorten the hike and return from Zhanglang to Jinghong by vehicle.
