History about Tagong Grassland​​

In Tibetan, Tagong means the ā€œThe place beloved by the Bodhisattvaā€. It is said that in Tang Dynasty, when the princess Wencheng entered Tibet region, the statue of Sakyamuni Buddha she carried manifested its divine presence here and did not want to leave, so a replica was created and enshrined here and the Tagong Monastery was built. With a history of more than 1000 years, the monastery is known as the ā€œLittle Jokhang Templeā€Ā now and has been an important pilgrimage site for Tibetan people in Kham region.

How to Get to Tagong Grassland

By self-driving: You can start from ā€ŒChengdu cityĀ along ā€ŒG318 National Highway to ā€ŒXinduqiao town, and then drive west for about 33 km to the Tagong Grassland. It is suggested to pay attention to sun protection in summer, and be careful of slippery roads on snowy days in winter. ā€Œ

Byā€Œ public transport: You can take the direct bus from ā€ŒKangding city to Tagong Grassland, with the fare of 10 yuan/person. You can also choose a charter service, with the cost of around 150 yuan for a round trip.

Best Time to Visit Tagong Grassland

The best time to visit Tagong Grassland is from end of June to early August in summer and September to October in autumn. In summer, the grassland is as green as a carpet and wildflowers are in full bloom everywhere. You can also see herds of cattle and sheep. In the morning, the mist and smoke from kitchen chimneys interweave like a painting. The climate is also cool and pleasant with an average temperature of 10 – 20 ā„ƒ.
