Want a unique Panda Volunteer Experience in China? Chengdu is the true Kingdom of Pandas!āā This specially designed āāChina Panda Volunteerāā tour takes place at Dujiangyan Panda Base. This is one of the four bases of China Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center. Being a panda keeper, you have the opportunity to cut bamboo, clean bamboo shoots, and transport bamboo for giant pandas. You can also learn the recipe of special Wowotou (steamed bread of corn) for pandas. While participating in the Panda Volunteer Program, you can learn a wealth of knowledge about protecting giant pandas. Anyone over the age of 8 can sign up to volunteer. Itās a great chance to create some unique memories for you and your child(ren). This exclusive 8-hour Panda Volunteer project is entirely dedicated to panda conservation and interaction.

- Prepare specialized food – steamed bread of corn for adorable giant pandas, and witness the base staff feed them at an armās length.

Start from your hotel at around 07:30 in the morning, after 1 hour driving, youāll arrive at the Dujiangyan Panda Base, which is the only scientific research institution in China that focuses on preventing and controlling panda disease and rescuing pandas from the wild. Here you will see the fluffy black and white giant pandas sleeping, chewing bamboo, climbing trees, and wrestling with each other.
Be welcomed by a professional panda keeper who will also give you a brief introduction about pandas, and your volunteering day begins!
The main volunteering activities include:
- Put on your work clothes and clean the enclosures and outdoor play areas.
- With help from the panda keepers, youāll split bamboo, wash bamboo shoots, and carry bamboo for the pandas.
- Watch the staff feed the giant pandas and learn how they care for them.
- Enjoy the lunch at the panda base.
- Watch a documentary to get further insight into pandas’ origin and how they behave.
- Try making steamed bread of corn for pandas.
- Get your Panda Volunteer Certificate.
The volunteering activity ends around 15:30. After that, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Chengdu downtown area.

- The panda volunteering fee is NOT included (RMB 700 P.P) in our tour package; please pay in cash when you arrive at the site.
- The volunteering activity needs to be reserved 1 week ahead of your visit date by using your passport. Please send a copy of your passport to your travel consultant for the reservation.
