Chengdu to Chongqing high-speed trains basically offer business-class seats, first-class seats and second-class seats. The ticket price and experience also vary accordingly. Please note that the price for different trains may also be different. It is normal. If you want to buy a cheaper ticket, try to search for off-peak hours on working days.

The second-class seat is chosen by the majority of passengers. Though the space is relatively compact, it is overall more spacious and comfortable than an economy seat on an airplane. The basic service and facilities are all equipped, such as charging ports, water, etc.

G Trains vs. D Trains vs. C Trains

Among all the 150 departures, about 110 are G trains, accounting for over 70%. Most G trains do not stop midway, so the speed is the fastest. The number of D trains is about 35. A few D trains also offer soft sleeper with a cost of CNY 120 – 450. The remaining 5 trains are C trains. Some D trains and C trains have 1 or more stops midway, so they may be slower. Major Stations along Chengdu to Chongqing Bullet Train

Chengdu East Railway Station

Chengdu East Railway Station operates the most Chengdu to Chongqing high-speed trains. It is only about 7km from the iconic Chunxi Road, so it is convenient for tourists who are planning a Chengdu tour. The station has four entrances: east, west, south and north. To save time, the core strategy is to choose the entrance based on your ticket gate.

The first step is to confirm which entrance is closest to your ticket gate. West Entrance is close to A1 – 11 and B1 – 11; East Entrance is close to A12 – 26 and B12 – 26. The South and North Entrances are actually in the middle of station, so both are not far from other ticket gates. South Entrance is near A-series ticket gates and North Entrance is near B-series ticket gates.

Then choose the entrance in accordance with your transportation means. If you take the metro, you can follow the signs overhead to either East or West Squares. Just choose based on your ticket gate. For tourists getting there by bus, just walk to the East Entrance directly. If you go there by taxi or car, all the four entrances all available.

Note: the A1 ticket gate is on the first floor, behind the escalator near West Entrance. And other ticket gates are on the second floor. So for passengers entering from the other three gates, you need to go through the waiting hall and take the downward escalator to A1.

Chongqing West Railway Station (Chongqingxi Railway Station)

Chongqing West Train Station features 3 entrances: east entrance, south entrance and north entrance. The 29 ticket gates are arranged in sequence from east (No. 1) to west (No. 29). So east entrance is near A1 and B1, and south entrance and north entrance are closest to A13 and B13, respectively.

So if there is no traffic jam, the taxi can be a convenient choice, since it can drop you off at south or north entrance. No matter which ticket gate, you will not walk for a long time.

For travelers taking the subway, east entrance is closer. After exiting the metro station, find and follow the sign for exit 1/4 to find exit 1. There are both stairs and elevators. After ascending to the ground square, you will see the train station directly.

The bus stops are on the East Square, tourists who take the bus can walk to the east entrance directly.

Note: the train station may require passengers to go through security check for the second time, so it is better to arrive earlier.

Chongqing North Railway Station

Relatively, Chongqing North Station is closer to the city center, Jiefangbei and also operates dense high-speed trains from Chengdu to Chongqing. So it is more convenient for tourists who plan to start the Chongqing tour after arrival.

The station is divided into South Square and North Square, which are now fully interconnected. Entering from either square leads to the same waiting hall. Basically, there are more bullet trains in North Square and more normal trains in South Square.

Each Square is equipped with a metro station, then which station should you get off at? If your ticket gate is among No. 1 – 13, choose North Square. After leaving the metro station, the escalator in front of you will take you to the entrance directly.

If it is among No. 14 – 26, choose South Square. First, exit from exit 2/4. Then turn right and follow the sign of railway entrance, walk about 2 – 3 minutes, you will see the entrance.

Alternative Options – Normal Trains and Bus

Normal Trains – The Most Cost-effective

The normal train is an ideal alternative option of Chengdu to Chongqing high-speed train. Though only 6 trains depart every day, there is one train every hour from 10:00 – 14:00. And its ticket fare is the lowest compared with other ways.

The cost of a hard seat is only half that of a second-class seat. Some fast trains take about 3.5 hours, just one hour longer than bullet trains. Taking all the above factors into account, the normal train is really cost-effective for budget travelers.

Bus

Bus is another economical way to travel from Chengdu to Chongqing. From 06:30 – 21:30, there are very dense buses with an interval of 30 minutes. Based on the bus types and departure time, its ticket varies from CNY 150 – 200. The duration is about 3.5 – 5 hours. But due to the complex road conditions in Chongqing, the time may be extended.

For tourists who have a limited budget and do not buy the normal train ticket, just try it. You can take it at Chengdu Bus Station or East Bus Station. The bus arrives at different stations in Chongqing, so make clear which one is closer to your destination before buying the ticket.

• Ticket booking: Except for public holidays, it is feasible to book online or purchase at the station hall, since there are frequent shifts and sufficient tickets. The online platforms include 12306 China Railway, CTrip, Klook, etc. Passport is the only valid ID card in China to buy the ticket and take the train, be sure to take it.
• Check Train Station:There are several departure and arrival stations for Chengdu to Chongqing high-speed trains, it is quite necessary to confirm the station before you head to the station, in case you arrive at the wrong station and miss the train.
• Luggage:standard baggage allowance is 20kg for adults and 10 kg for kids. There are luggage racks above the seats and at both ends of the carriage.
