Day-by-day Itinerary

1. Day 1: Jinghong Arrival in Xishuangbanna

   Welcome to our 3-day Yunnan adventure to Xishuangbanna! Please make your way to Xishuangbanna Gasa International Airport. Arrange the transfer to the hotel by yourself. You could take a taxi, then check in at the hotel in Jinghong downtown with your passports.

   If you feel like exploring the city a little bit on your own, then Gaozhuang Night Market can be a good destination. Here you can experience local nightlife and Dai culture, feeling the most authentic local vibe in those colorful stalls and streets. Take your time, let those common but local specialties like hand-crafted accessories, tropical juices or fragrant Dai barbecue tell you more about this vibrant city. As night falls, the music and lights will come alive and make the market a perfect spot for an easy and relaxing evening walk.

2. Day 2: Xishuangbanna Nature & Hike
   Hike around Tropical Wonders and Visit Dai Villages

   Today, meet your tour guide and be led to the Tropical Botanical Garden. Boasting the richest plant diversity in China, the garden is the place where you can see over 3,000 species of tropical plants and a colorful botanical landscape.

   The park is divided into two parts: the East Area and the West Area. The West consists of more than 20 small botanical gardens with an eye-opening array of exotic flowers and plants of all colors. While the East is a long and narrow original tropical rainforest, where we will take a leisure hike, enjoying large wild flowers as well as strangler trees and other wonders along the way. The East and the West are far apart, and the sightseeing bus will take you between the two areas.

   

   After that, your driver will transfer you to Dai Minority Park, the soul of Xishuangbanna. There are five best-preserved Dai natural villages in the scenic area, haunted by tropical idyllic scenery as if a fairyland on earth. You will be introduced to traditional Buddhist temples, simple bamboo houses, and enjoyable entertainment activities.

   While walking through the villages’ greenery and peaceful waterways, you will gain a deeper understanding of Dai ethnic traditions, daily life, and religious beliefs. You may also watch folk performances, learn about Dai festivals, and see how local people preserve their customs through architecture, dress, and community activities passed down for generations.

3. Day 3: Xishuangbanna Elephant Visit, Jinghong Departure
   Meet the Wild Elephant in Rainforest Beauty, Explore the Royal Garden

   After breakfast, your guide will take you to Wild Elephant Valley. This is a protected rainforest area which is known for its population of Asian wild elephants living here. Here you’ll get to see those giant creatures roaming in dense tropical forest from a safe and responsible distance. This allows you to both observe the elephants’ natural habitat while also minimizing human interference to protect them.

   More than 4,000 meters of elevated walkways and forest trails wind through the valley, allowing you to explore the rainforest at a relaxed pace. Along the way, you may spot elephant footprints, droppings, and feeding traces, as well as diverse tropical plants. With some luck, wildlife such as macaques or green peacocks may also appear.

   

   Continue your Xishuangbanna tour to Manting Park, a cultural landmark and an important symbol of Dai heritage. As the oldest park in the region, it once served as the royal garden of the Dai kings and has a history of more than 1,300 years. Stroll along the peaceful lakes, enjoy the green lawns, and relax beneath towering ancient trees. Then visit Zongfosi Temple (General Buddhist Temple), just behind Manting Park. It is the leading and oldest temple in Xishuangbanna, feasting your eyes with over 25 figures of Buddhas and many grand Dai Buddhist architectures.
