Bailong Elevator – the Tallest and Fastest Elevator in the World

Located in Yuanjiajie of the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, the Bailong Elevator is the tallest outdoor elevator and one of the most creative elevators in the world. It is a perfect combination of nature and human activity. Construction of Bailong Elevator

Bailong Elevator is magnificent with a vertical elevation difference of 335 meters. It was initially constructed to release the pressure of the hotels on the mountains and allow tourists to tour the mountains and stay at hotels elsewhere. The main equipment of the Bailong Elevator was produced by Rangger Elevator Company from Germany, and they adopted a design of a double-deck fully-exposed sightseeing elevator with three of its kind running side by side.

Bailong Elevator is composed of a 154-meter vertical shaft inside the cliff and a 172-meter steel structured shaft attached to the mountain, which makes it safe enough to carry passengers. Some people may be curious about Bailong Elevator deaths. In fact, it hasn’t caused any deaths since its completion and operation in April 2002.

The weather in summer is too hot for one to take an outdoor elevator, and it’s too cold in winter and the elevator might be suspended due to bad weather, so avoid getting there in these two seasons.

How to Get to Bailong Elevator

Bailong Elevator is located in Yuanjiajie of Wulingyuan Scenic Area, so you need to get to Wulingyuan first. Go to Zhangjiajie Central Bus Station and take a bus to Wulingyuan. It costs CNY 13 and the bus departs every 10 minutes from 7:00 to 17:30. If you travel to Zhangjiajie by train and find yourself at Zhangjiajie West Railway Station, you can take a direct bus to Wulingyuan, which costs CNY 10.

Once you arrive at the scenic area, make your way to the east gate Wujiayu Ticket Station as it is the nearest one to Bailong Elevator of Zhangjiajie. After you enter the scenic area, find a sightseeing bus at the right hand of the entrance, then take a sightseeing bus to visit the Bailong Elevator. Remember do not get off at other stations like Golden Whip Stream, which is distant from the elevator.

Tips for Visiting Bailong Elevator

  1. The journey from bottom to up is more recommended, as you can see the stunning scenery of Yuanjiajie.
  2. Visiting there in slack season in case of a long queue. Also, in the morning, there are fewer crowds.
  3. Bailong Elevatormay be suspended for bad weather, so keep an eye on the weather before you go.
  4. If you want to capture videos and take photos of Bailong Elevator, make your way to the Fields in the Air ofTianzi Mountain, as it is the best place to admire the running Bailong Elevator.
