Are you amazed by the incredible performance of Eileen Gu in the Beijing Winter Olympics and curious about the Snow Flying Ribbon where she competed? Are you looking to add some hidden gem attractions to your Beijing tour? The Beijing Shougang Park definitely will not let you down.
As a steel mill founded in 1919, Shougang Park has preserved industrial structures such as the No. 3 blast furnace, the cooling tower, and the Xishi Silos, while also renovating the site to incorporate modern landscapes like the digital art museum, Qunming Lake, and Xiuchi Lake.
In addition to the beautiful scenery of steel blast furnaces with backgrounds of lakes and snow mountains, visiting the Shougang Park will not only let you know more about the steelmaking history and experience venues identical to those used in the Winter Olympics, but also explore modern technological projects such as digital art and autonomous driving.

Top Attractions & What to See in Shougang Park
Industrial Heritage Relics
- 3 Blast Furnace
As Shougang’s first modern large-scale blast furnace, it had a capacity exceeding 2,500 cubic meters and set a record for continuous operation spanning 11 years. During the renovation, key equipment including blast furnace, hot blast stove, and gravity dust collector was preserved.
The No.3 Blast Furnace now serves as the No.3 Blast Furnaces museum and Cultural venue, featuring a 40-meter-high observation deck and an XR digital theater, which also occasionally hosts events such as fashion weeks and science fiction conventions.
- Xishi Silos
It used to be a large storage silo for iron ore and coke, which was served as the office of the Olympic Organizing Committee Office for Beijing Winter Olympics during 2016 to 2022. After the renovation, it became a Winter Olympics-themed exhibition hall and commercial district, but the silo’s massive circular structure and concrete texture were fully preserved.
- Cooling Towers
The three massive hyperbolic cooling towers on the west side of Qunming Lake was the heart of the power plant’s cooling system. During the Winter Olympics, they served as the natural backdrop for the Big Air Shougang, creating a classic image of industry and winter sports coming together that was captured by cameras around the world.
Cyberpunk style photos
No. 3 Blast Furnace + its reflections in Xiu Chi Lake:

- Best Shooting Spots: (a.) Low-angle shot of the blast furnace from the south bank of Xiuchi Lake, capturing the reflection (b.) Wide-angle shot from the base of the furnace, looking up at the spiral staircase and steel pipes.
Qunming Lake + Cooling Towers + Big Air Shougang:
- Highlights: With the 100-meter hyperbolic cooling tower serving as a natural backdrop and the Big Air Shougang, the reflections on Qunming Lake create a striking image of industrial ruggedness and the modernity of the Winter Olympics.
- Best Shooting Spots: (a.) Walking path along the eastern shore of Qunming Lake (b.) The path near Liugonghui Commercial.
High-Level Pipe Gallery:
- Highlights: Converted from a former steel mill’s aerial transport corridor, it offers an unobstructed view of the blast furnaces, cooling towers, and Xishi silos. The geometric lines of the pipeline and the distant city skyline create a sci-fi atmosphere.
- Best shooting spots: The mid-section corner after reaching the top of the spiral staircase in the Ring of the Winter Olympics.
Winter Olympics Legacy
- Big Air Shougang
Served as the venue for the freestyle skiing and snowboarding big air events at the Beijing Winter Olympics, it is the world’s first permanent urban big air facility. Its design draws inspiration from the flowing ribbons of the Flying Apsaras in the Dunhuang murals and resembles a crystal slipper from the side perspective.
- Ring of the Winter Olympic
The design features a torch-shaped circular space that tapers from wide at the top to narrow at the bottom. The top consists of a silver steel ring, while the spiral staircase encircled by a band of vermilion in the center forms the artistic Chinese character for “Winter” (冬).

Lakes & Green Spaces
- Qunming Lake
Qunming Lake was an industrial cooling pond, after renovation, it has been transformed into an urban ecological park featuring Chinese-style garden landscaping. It boasts a well-developed aquatic ecosystem and serves as a wintering ground for migratory birds such as mallards and pintails.
- Xiu Chi Lake
Renovated in 2016, Xiu Chi Lake preserves the water surface while extensively developing the underground space. The lake features a vast expanse of water, and part of the surface is transformed into an ice rink in winter, offering activities such as ice skating and ice cycling. The underground space has been converted into a parking lot and art museums, combining thermal insulation, aesthetic appeal, and functionality.
SoReal Science Fiction Paradise
The SoReal Science Fiction Paradise is located at Jinan Science and Technology Plaza of the North District of Shougang Park. Its total area is 22,000 square meters, integrating technology, entertainment, retail, exhibitions, and esports, which is also the world’s first fully immersive sci-fi complex themed around space exploration.
It totally has six floors: The first floor features a sci-fi terminal-style design, where ticket validation is akin to “boarding a ship,” guided by AI robots to start the story. The second floor features the 33 META CLUB, with a 33-meter-high ceiling, offering VR experiences (interstellar roller coasters, skydiving, horseback riding, battlefield combat, etc.). The third floor has coffee shops and dining options where visitors can relax.
The fourth and fifth floors are themed experience areas that blend Chinese mythology with science fiction, featuring VR experiences such as Journey to the West: Demon Slayer – The Battle of Origins. The sixth floor is art exhibitions and a high-altitude observation deck offering panoramic views of the Shougang Park and the Yongding River.

Catch a Driverless Robotaxi
Don’t miss the driverless robottaxi experience in the park, especially when you are traveling with kids. There are Apollo Go (Baidu Apollo) Robotaxi and Apolong Autonomous Shuttle Bus for you to choose, and both of them use Level 4 autonomous driving.
Apollo Go (accommodates 4 to 5 passengers) is similar to a taxi; you can select any pickup location and destination in the park on the app, then request a ride. When the car arrives, you can input the last four digits of your phone number on the screen to unlock the door.
The Apolong Shuttle can accommodate around 10 people. You need to scan the QR code on the bus stop sign at one designated stop, select your destination, and then wait for the bus to arrive. After scanning the code, you can also view the real-time locations of the bus stop and the bus.

- Shougang Starbucks
Located on the first floor of the No. 3 Blast Furnace, the Starbucks features three massive floor-to-ceiling glass windows, and its interior features exposed metal beams and columns. It is equipped with gray industrial steel handrails and an outdoor terrace, blending harmoniously with the heavy industrial landscape of blast furnaces and pipes.
- Shougang Shangri-La Hotel
Renovated from the former Shougang Power Plant, the Shangri-La hotel is the official designated hotel for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. It features a full-service Shangri-La Coffee shop, the Power Plant Lounge, and Shangri-La’s first standalone craft beer restaurant. The guest rooms retain industrial elements such as concrete beams, columns, and piping, complemented by warm-toned furnishings. Some rooms offer views of Big Air Shougang and Qunming Lake.
Nearby Shijingshan Mountain’s Panoramic View
Shijingshan Mountain is located to the northwest of the Shougang Park, across from Qunming Lake, the No. 3 Blast Furnace, and the Big Air Shougang, which offers an excellent point to overlook the entire park. You can walk to the base of the mountain from the west side of the Shougang Shangri-La Hotel, or take an autonomous driving to the Shijingshan Mountain Base Station. The mountain has trails and steps, and it takes about 30 minutes to reach the summit.
