- Watch out for early-month high temperatures
In the first ten days of September, midday can still reach 30°C (86°F). Avoid the strong sun between 1:00–3:00 pm, keep water intake, and always wear sunscreen.
- Check the weather & allow extra commuting time
Night rain is common in September. Carry an umbrella and reserve enough time for your commute – heavy showers can slow traffic. If you’re heading to Mount Qingcheng, check forecasts carefully; storms may cause sudden site closures.
- Pay attention to Jiuzhaigou’s peak season
From late September, visitor numbers to Jiuzhaigou surge. Book your tickets in advance – don’t leave it to the last minute.
- Mid-Autumn Festival price hikes
In 2026, the Mid-Autumn Festival is on September 25–27. Hotel rates rise sharply – Book your rooms at least 2–4 weeks ahead.
- Choose your airport wisely
Chengdu has two airports: Shuangliu (close to downtown, and more convenient) and Tianfu (far out). Book flights into/out of Shuangliu. We don’t recommend Tianfu Airport due to the long distance from downtown.
- Where to stay
For maximum convenience, pick a hotel along Metro Line 2 near Chunxi Road or Tianfu Square – easy access to everywhere. For budget-oriented accommodation, try the quieter Wenshu Yuan area – plenty of local restaurants and cozy guesthouses.
If you need quick access to Shuangliu Airport, choose a hotel along the metro line heading in that direction.
