How to Get to Wangxian Valley

No matter where you’re traveling from, you’ll have to get to Shangrao (上鄶) first. It’s the closest and most practical gatewaty and then you can takeĀ the ride-hailing service (CNY 100-150/ USD 14.63-21.95) or shuttle bus (CNY 30/USD 4.39) to reach Wangxian Valley.

Tip: the bus station and the train station are connected. There are signs in English guiding you to the bus station once you get off the train.

From Shanghai and Hangzhou: take a high-speed train to travel directly to Shangrao (3 hours from Shanghai, 2 hours from Hangzhou), then take a local bus or taxi to Wangxian Valley (1-2 hours).

From Beijing: If traveling from Beijing, the best choice would be a flight. There’s one direct flight to Shangrao Sanqingshan Airport every day, which takes around 2 hours. Traveling by high-speed train is also possible, but it’ll take around 6 hours, making it a less recommended choice. After arrival, still take a bus or taxi ride to the valley.

Best Time to Visit Wangxian Valley

Best Seasons

Wangxian Valley can be visited all year round. Spring and autumn are the most preferable periods, the weather is cool, and the scenery is lush.Ā Summer is hot and humidĀ sometimes (though less hot than in the cities),Ā it’s also an ideal time to see waterfalls and go canyon rafting Winter is cold but quiet and atmospheric.

In general, compared to the season, everyday weather plays a much more important role in your journey. Sunny, rainy, or foggy days can leave impacts on your travel experience and your photos.

Day vs Night – Which Is Better?

Nighttime visit is better. Wangxian Valley’s fame is greatly built on its fantasy-like night views. So I would recommend you to visit from the afternoon till night. In this case, you can embrace the magical sunset and witness the moment when all the tilted houses get illuminated.

Day-time visit is scenic but less unique. You can explore the cliffs or take the canyon rafting if it’s in summer.

Top Things to Do in Wangxian Valley

See the Cliffside Houses and Walk the Sky Bridges

Cliffside houses are the most iconic marks of Wangxian Valley. They were built on the cliffs, connected by bridges and elevated plank roads. Walking on these hanging paths is a little thrilling. Along the way to the top, you can embrace a panoramic view of the whole valley.

This experience can be relaxing during the daytime cause it’s less crowded, but the most fascinating view always comes out at night.

If you’re a true adventurer, consider crossing the canyon to leave the scenic area via the glass bridge at the end of your journey.
