Beijing Chaoyang Station, Beijing Station and Beijing West Railway Station all operate Beijing -Harbin high-speed trains. But among the 24 trains, 21 depart from Beijing Chaoyang Railway Station, including the 3 fastest trains. So it has been the top choice for most passengers. Subway Line 3 can take you to the train station directly.

Beijing Railway Station and West Railway Station operate only 2 trains and 1 train every day, respectively. They are only recommended for tourists who stay near the two stations. Subway Line 2 gets you to Beijing Station and Subway Lines 7 and 9 serve Beijing West Station.

Train Stations in Harbin – Which is the Top Option?

The high-speed trains arrive at either Harbin West Train Station or Harbin Train Station. Harbin West Station handles about 20 trains daily, making it the major arrival hub. But it is relatively far from the city center – Central Street. From here, you can take Subway Line 3 to Zhaolin Park Station exit 1 and walk about 5 minutes to get there.

Among the 4 trains to Harbin Station, 3 take over 6 hours, while the remaining one, G117, is much faster with a travel time of 4h49m. It departs at 14:00 and arrives at 18:49. If the schedule works for you, it is also a great option. Plus, Harbin Station is right in the downtown area and only two metro stops from Central Street via Subway Line 2, ensuring a seamless transition from train to city exploration.

China Railway 12306: A reliable way is to book via the official app or website of China Railway 12306, which are also equipped with an English interface and support international credit cards. Before booking, you need to register with an email address and conduct real-name verification with your passport. Then, you can purchase the ticket with your passport. The verification process usually takes about 3 – 5 working days. Since it is the official platform, no service fee is charged.

When to Book

The pre-sale period for train tickets is 15 days. But it should be noted that tickets for different trains go on sale at different times and each train has its own release schedule. So you should check it in advance. Besides, during holidays, the tickets can be sold out very quickly, so it is highly recommended to book as early as possible. If the ticket has been sold out, try the waitlist function.

Essential Tips for Beijing-Harbin High-speed Train Travel

  • Dining: Most trains have dining cars that offer boxed meals, fruits, snacks and beverages. The train attendants will also push a small cart to sell food. But the food choices are limited and the price is relatively high. So it is suggested to bring some food and drinks in advance.
  • Toilets: Each carriage is equipped with two toilets and an accessible toilet. Toilet paper, disposable toilet seat covers, washbasins, mirrors, hand sanitizer, hand towels, and hooks are provided.
  • Wifi: Fuxing bullet trains are equipped with Wifi, while this is not guaranteed on other trains and the connection may not be stable.
  • Charging: You can find the charging port under the seat, between the seat armrest or on the back of the front seat.

Is a sleeper available on high-speed trains?

High-speed trains usually do not offer a sleeper. But normal-speed trains have hard sleepers and soft sleepers, you can try when taking overnight trains.

How early should I arrive at the station?

To make sure you have enough time to check in, go through security check and find the correct waiting room, it is recommended to arrive at least one hour earlier. And trains usually stop checking tickets 3 – 5 minutes before departure, so don’t be late.

What if my ticket is sold out? Is there a waiting list?

If the ticket is sold out, you can use the waitlist function. Just submit a waitlist order, then the system will automatically purchase the ticket when other passengers cancel their tickets or when new tickets are released. I’m traveling with a young child. Are there special facilities or different rules for tickets?

Every adult can bring one young kid under 6 years old for free, as long as they do not occupy a seat. But if you have more than one kid, then you should buy a child ticket for each additional kid. And children aged between 6 and 14 get a half-price discount, whereas those over 14 should purchase tickets at full price. Nowadays, one can find mother-and-baby rooms and elevators for ease of accessibility for passengers carrying babies at most train stations.
