Why Take a High-Speed Train from Shanghai to Harbin?

High-Speed vs. Normal-Speed Trains

If you want to travel from Shanghai toĀ HarbinĀ by train, you basically haveĀ two main options: theĀ high-speed trains and the traditional overnight normal-speed trains.Ā In contrast, most people would go for the first one. High-speed trains (G/D-series) are the fastest, and they can coverĀ nearly the 2,422-km journeyĀ in about 12–13 hours. And you’ll also get to spend your time on the road with clean cabins, advanced facilities, and smooth rides.

However, normal-speed trains (K/T/Z-series), even though they offer a more nostalgic-style travel experience that you may be interested in, would take you longer to complete a trip (24Ā hours). While normal trains are, indeed, more budget-friendly, they require much more time and are less comfortable.
