- Day 1: Zhangjiajie Arrival
Welcome to the Avatar in the real world! After you arrive in Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport, a private local driver will pick you up and take you to a comfortable hotel in the Wulingyuan area. You can do as you please for the rest of the time.
Xibu Street is a great place to experience the Tujia culture. In addition, you can also relax in a bar, taste local snacks, and admire minority-style ornaments and handicrafts.

Following breakfast, you will go to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, which is the first UNESCO-listed national forest park in China due to its unique quartz-sandstone pillars and fog-covered forests, a strikingly beautiful landscape that inspired the floating mountains in the motion picture Avatar.
Take the Bailong Elevator from the valley's floor to the top of the mountain in only 66 seconds, which is a glass sightseeing lift. Upon reaching Yuanjiajie, visit the South Sky Pillar that is one of the park's distinctive vertical peaks, and the Enchanting Platform that provides a panoramic view over a series of cliffs, and go to the First Bridge Under Heaven which is a natural stone arch connecting two massive rock formations.
Bailong Elevator, the highest outdoor elevator in the world Continue your journey by bus to Tianzi Mountain, known as the “Monarch of the Peaks.” This area offers the four major scenic wonders - sea of clouds, rising sun, moonlit night, and winter snow. See the famous Imperial Brush Peak, where towering pillars resemble upright calligraphy brushes, then explore Helong Park and Enchanting Platform, both excellent viewpoints for appreciating the grandeur of the mountain range.
After the tour, go down the mountain with a cable car over forests and stone pillars. Last, drive you back to your hotel.
Peaks of Tianzi Mountain - Day 3: Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon AdventureThrilling Glass Bridge and Peaceful Baofeng Lake Boat Ride
Whether you travel to Zhangjiajie for a weekend or a day, the Grand Canyon of Zhangjiajie is a must-visit spot! This place is described as the earth's raw beauty, a mixture of green mountains, wide streams, and waterfalls. Walking is one of the best ways to get closer to nature and enjoy all the canyon's features. Besides that, you are going through the trails where the stunning rock formations made by nature over a thousand years are very near.
The highlight of this visit falls on the experience at the great Glass Bridge which is known all over the world for great heights. This bridge that is 430 meters long and hangs 300 meters above the valley floor is the highest in the world with a glass bottom, and it gives you a lot of thrills with height and wonderful views at the same time. You can even see the valley and nature below through your feet.
In the afternoon, continue to the tranquil Baofeng Lake, a perfect contrast to the canyon’s adrenaline. Board a relaxing boat ride and cross emerald waters surrounded by towering sandstone peaks. Listen to local folk songs performed by boatmen and enjoy one of Zhangjiajie’s most tranquil spots.

Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge - Day 4: Tianmen Mountain, Drive to Furong Ancient TownMagnificent Natural Arch and Charming Waterfall-lit Ancient Town
The last attraction in Zhangjiajie is the Tianmen Mountain, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. You will ascend by the cableway, known as one of the longest and most scenic cable cars in the world. As you go upward, enjoy great views of cliffs, valleys, and winding mountain roads (99 bends).
Once you reach the top, challenge yourself with the thrilling Glass Skywalk. The see-through paths are on top of the cliffs, and you can experience the fearsome views beneath your feet. Continue along the Ghost Valley Plank Road, a narrow cliffside path with surrounding clouds. Want to learn about Buddhist culture in Xiangxi? Then go to Tianmen Mountain Temple. After that, down to Tianmen Cave, aka Heaven’s Gate, a magnificent natural arch reached by 999 steps (those with better physical strength can climb up in 30 minutes). After exploring the mountaintop, take the cable car down.
In the late afternoon, drive to Furong Ancient Town, a riverside village famous for its stilted houses and cascading waterfall. As night falls, stroll through lantern-lit streets and admire the illuminated waterfall - like a fairyland. Your tour guide will help you with the hotel check-in.

The crisp morning air fills the Furong Ancient Town. As dawn breaks, mist rises over the river, reflecting stilted houses and the cascading waterfall that defines the town. Stroll along quiet lanes, enjoying the atmosphere before the day’s visitors arrive.
Continue your exploration of Furong’s history and culture by visiting Xizhou Tongzhu Garden, an elegant site featuring traditional bronze pillars and landscaped courtyards. Cross the historic Tu Wang Bridge, and then head to Youyang Palace, the place where headmen of all dynasties escape the heat and summer. Along the way, pause once more to admire the town’s iconic waterfall.
Furong Ancient Town during the Day After your morning in Furong, drive approximately 120 kilometers to Fenghuang Ancient Town, another picturesque riverside settlement. While Furong offers quiet, misty charm and a focus on natural scenery, Fenghuang captivates with its bustling streets, well-preserved Qing dynasty architecture, and lively local culture.
When you get there, walk through the cobblestone streets that are surrounded by old wooden houses, shops and pavilions next to the river. Explore the picturesque backstreets and the bridges that let you see the long history of Fenghuang and its skills in arts and crafts. Night descends, and the town is a different place: the lights from the lanterns light up the rivers and streets and the Tuojiang River is bathed in sparkling lights.
- Day 6: Fenghuang DepartureRiverside Wooden Architecture and Tuojiang River Boat Ride
After breakfast, start with a Tuojiang River boat ride, past the stilted houses that line the riverbanks. Admire the architectural beauty of Wind and Rain Bridge and the historic Wanming Pagoda, capturing perfect photo opportunities of this picturesque riverside town. Take a walk to Jumping Rock (Tiaoyan), 100 meters long with a total of 15 rock piers. It is an ancient bridge that was first built in the Tang Dynasty. The dramatic cliffs and flowing river create a striking contrast.
Take a boat ride on the Tuojiang River For those interested in literary history, you may visit the Former Residence of Shen Congwen (optional, additional fee), the celebrated Chinese writer, to learn about his life, works, and connection to Fenghuang.
