Yes, foreign tourists must obtain a Tibet Travel Permit to enter the region. And individuals cannot apply for it on their own. Travel agencies such as CXT will handle the application process on your behalf after you make a reservation for a tour and provide information of your passport and Chinese visa.

Usually, unless otherwise specified, our tour cost does not include air tickets or train tickets to Tibet (transportation within Tibet’s cities is included), but CXT can arrange reservations or provide suggestions for flights/train schedules.
In cities like Lhasa and Shigatse, we usually hand-pick the best three-star or four-star hotels for our clients. In remote areas such as the Everest Base Camp and the Ailaoshan Region, it might be guesthouses or camps, with very basic conditions.
You are suggested to make the reservation at least 1 month in advance, especially during the peak tourist season in Tibet (May to October) and during holidays, so that we can assist you in obtaining the Tibet Travel Permit and making hotel reservations smoothly.
