History of Huangshan Hot Springs
The earliest recorded instance of an emperor bathing in hot springs dates back to the Yellow Emperor (Huangdi). In Huangshan, Anhui Province, there is a hot spring known anciently as the Spirit Spring or Cinnabar Spring. The Huangshan Hot Spring gushes out from beneath Ziyun Peak and faces Taohua Peak across the stream. Legend has it that Emperor Huangdi bathed here for forty-nine days and then ascended to heaven.
According to folklore, after bathing in Huangshan Hot Springs, Huangdi’s white hair turned black, and he regained his youthful vigor. Delighted, he named the spring the Spirit Spring. Since then, the hot spring has become famous worldwide and is celebrated as one of the renowned springs in Southeast China. The spring is rich in various trace elements beneficial to human health, with pure water quality and a suitable temperature, making it ideal for both drinking and bathing.
Benefits of Huangshan Hot Springs
Huangshan natural hot springs are infused with ingredients like red wine, ginger, and Chinese herbs, and the Huangshan hot spring water is characterized by its warm and pungent properties. The pungency promotes smooth flow of energy, induces sweating to detoxify the body, while the warmth helps to warm the meridians, activate blood circulation, enhance organ functions, balance yin and yang, and uplift the spirit.
Soaking in the hot springs during a Huangshan travel offers a perfect blend of nature and relaxation. When bathing in the hot spring, the body is influenced by the water’s temperature, pressure, and buoyancy. This increases the excitability of the nervous system, dilates peripheral blood vessels, accelerates blood circulation, promotes metabolism, reduces muscle tension, relieves fatigue, and alleviates spasms and pain.
