Get to Kunming by Air

The most convenient transportation to Kunming is by plane. Currently, there are flights to Kunming from major cities in China. There are many flights and manyĀ options to choose from.

Kunming Changshui International Airport

Kunming Changshui International Airport is located in Guandu District, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, China. It is 24.5 kilometers northeast of Kunming and is one of the eight major regional hub airports in China, an international aviation hub, and a 4F level international airport.

Kunming Changshui International Airport was officially put into operation in 2012. The T1 terminal of the airport covers an area of 568,800 square meters, and the S1 satellite hall covers an area of 127,700 square meters. The airport has two runways, each 4000 meters and 4500 meters long. Kunming Airport has a busy passenger throughput, with routes covering 189 domestic and international destinations, including 61 international and regional destinations. Kunming SubwayĀ Line 6Ā (Airport Special Line): The one-way travel time is 31 minutes and the ticket price is RMB 5. There are a total of 8 stations, with a 15 minute train interval and daily operating hours from 06:20 to 23:00.

Airport Express

The Airport Express is an airport shuttle bus that connects Kunming Airport with various districts in the main city of Kunming. There are now two routes of shuttle buses: No.1 Bus to Kunmingnan Railway StationĀ (high-speed railway station) and No. 2 Bus to Kunming Railway Station City Terminal.

Surrounding City Bus

Kunmingnan Railway Station

Location:Ā No. 328 Lian Street, Chenggong District (at the intersection of Xiangyuan Street, Liangwang Road, and Lian Street)

Officially put into use on December 28, 2016,Ā Kunmingnan RailwayĀ Station is one of the large-scale comprehensive transportation hubs in western China. At present, Kunmingnan RailwayĀ Station is only served byĀ high-speed trains, and the rail transit lines passing through Kunmingnan RailwayĀ Station include Kunming SubwayĀ Line 1 and Line 4.

The distance between Kunmingnan RailwayĀ Station and Kunming Railway Station is 28 kilometers, and the fastest mode of transportation is by high-speed train. There are more than 60 high-speed trains from morning till night every day, which can be reached in 20 minutes.

How to transfer to urban Kunming transportation after taking the high-speed train to Kunmingnan RailwayĀ Station?

  • The parking lot where taxisand ride-hailing cars are located is opposite the meetingĀ point 6 on the exit channel, indicated by arrows on the ground.

How to Pay for Public Transportation in Kunming

Subway/Bus: QR CodeĀ and Physical IC Card

The digital QR code is the most common payment way, you can acquire the code in the mini-program in Wechat and Alipay. Or use the official app called Zhi Hui Tong Xing. Another way is to buy a physical IC card in the service center in the subway station, called Kunming Public Transport Card. It can be used on both subway and bus and offers a 10% discount. And it is recommended to prepare a small amount of cash, it may be useful in buying the one-way subway ticket and paying for the bus in case of poor internet.

Taxis/Ride-Hailing: QR Code andĀ Cash

When taking the taxi, cash and QR code payment are the two main methods. And WeChat Pay or Alipay is supported by almost all the taxis. If you book a car through ride-hailing apps like Didi, the payment methods are more diverse. Wechat, Alipay and bank cards are all available.Ā A taxi ride from Kunming Changshui Airport (KMG) to Green Lake ParkĀ costs about CNY 70 and takes about 40 minutes. And the journey fromĀ Kunming Train Station and South Train Station to downtown Kunming takes about 33 minutes/10 minutes and costs CNY 60/CNY 10, respectively.

To book a car, the most recommended app is Didi. It is equivalent of Uber/LyftĀ in China.Ā And the app provides the English interface, so it is very easy to use for foreigners. After downloading the app, register with your oversea phone number and upload your passport information to complete the identity verification. Then add your international credit card or debit card in the wallet. Now, you can use it freely. If you have installed Wechat or Alipay, you can also use the mini-program. The process is the same as above and you can pay by Wechat and Alipay directly.
