5 Days Shanghai Xian Tour By Flight

Day-by-day Itinerary

1. Day 1: Shanghai Arrival

   Upon arrival in Shanghai, you will meet our local driver who will hold a welcome sign with your name on it. Then you will be driven to the local hotel that we have booked for you and check in. In the rest of the day, take the time to relax yourself or explore the city on your own.

2. Day 2: Shanghai
   Shanghai Museum, Yuyuan Garden, Bund area

   AM: We will start today’s tour from Shanghai Museum. The museum houses millions of collections and especially features bronze wares, porcelain works, paintings and calligraphy works. The guide will show you around to trace Chinese history and culture through the well-preserved treasures. Then we will visit Yuyuan Garden. This over 400-year-old classical Chinese garden was originally built in the Ming Dynasty by the owner Pan Yunduan for his parents to enjoy later life. We will wander around to enjoy the beautiful scenery and visit Zigzag Bridge, Great Rockery, Jade Rock, Sansui Hall, etc.

   Noon: Lunch in local restaurant.

   PM: In the afternoon, you will enjoy a short cruise tour along the Huangpu River to appreciate the beauty of Shanghai from another angle. Afterwards, disembark at the Bund area, you will have some free time to walk around and admire the beautiful architectures on the Bund.

   Finally, pay a visit to the Shanghai Old Street to discover the traditional life of Shanghai city in the past.

3. Day 3: Shanghai - Xian by Flight
   Shaanxi History Museum, Ancient City Wall, Big Wild Goose Pagoda

   AM: Our driver will pick you up from your hotel in Shanghai and transfer you to Shanghai Airport for your flight to Xian.

   Upon arrival, you will be met by our local tour guide and transfer to visit Xi'an Museum where you can glimpse the city's 3,000-year history of construction and more than 1,000-year history as a capital. Follow your tour guide to admire some precious artifacts from the Zhou, Qin, Han and Tang dynasties and learn about some facts about them. In the same scenic area, you will find a Tang Dynasty Buddhist pagoda named Small Wild Goose Pagoda, which is 43.4 meters tall and now has 13 storeies (originally 15 floors). It is an urban landmark together with her older sister Big Wild Goose Pagoda.

   Noon: Lunch in  local restaurant.

   PM: Then you will come to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a worship place for Buddhists. The pagoda was originally built to hold sutras and figurines of the Buddha that Xuanzang brought back to China from Indiain Tang Dyansty, 652 A.D. Now there is a big square divided into North Square and South Square, surrounding the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The design of the buildings and statues is in Tang style, showing people the ever glory of that great time. It’s busier in the evening when many activities with Tang elements held by local amateur.

   At last visit Xian Ancient City Wall which is the most completely preserved and the largest city wall in China. It was built for the military defense in the Ming Dynasty, 1370 A.D. Since it is cycling the Xian city, visitors can ride a bike around the city wall which is optional (cost on your own, CNY45p.p). Then transfer back to your hotel.

4. Day 4: Xian
   Terracotta Warriors and Horses, Banpo Museum

   AM: Our tour guide will pick you up from your hotel lobby at 08:30 and transfer eastward to Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum which is known as “the Eighth Wonders of the World” with a surprisingly high level in sculpture. It is located 30 km east of the Xi’an City and the original site was found by four local farmers while drilling a well in 1974. The museum includes Pit 1(the largest pit), Pit 2, Pit 3, and the exhibition hall of the chariots and horses. You will stay in the museum for 2-3 hours. Listening to the explanation from the expert tour guide, you will learn the hidden story of those live-sized sculptures and history of their owner: First Emperor of Qin who is also the first emperor of China.

   Noon: Lunch in local restaurant.

   PM: Next you will visit  Small Wild Goose Pagoda, which is the twin of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Both the two pagodas are important witnesses for the history of Great Tang Dynasty. Same as the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Small Wild Goose Pagoda was also built to store the Buddhist scriptures brought from Ancient India by the master monk Xuanzang in the Tang Dynasty. Different from the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Small Wild Goose Pagoda attracts visitors with its special charms that it keeps quiet and peaceful in the bustling downtown area, has precious value on architecture and Chinese garden aesthetics.

5. Day 5: Xian - Shanghai by Flight

   After breakfast, our guide will see you off at the airport for your return flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival in Shanghai, our local driver will wait you at airport by holding a board with your name and transfer to your hotel.
