How to Get to Nalati Grassland
- By Car: Most guesthouses in Narati Town can arrange a carpool from Yining County to Narati Grassland. The carpool often departs after the set time, with a one-way fare around 120 RMB per person (peak season). The journey is fast, taking about 2.5 hours on the highway with 4-6 people per car. If you’re running late, no worry, there are many taxis at the train station.
- By Bus: You can search for buses via the WeChat “Xinjiang Passenger Transport Network,” looking for buses from Yili Prefecture Bus Station to Narati Grassland or Xinyuan County. Tickets are around 50 RMB, and the travel time is approximately 5 hours.
Getting to Nalati Grassland from Urumqi
By Train + Bus: Since there’s no way for you to directly reach the grassland by train, you’ll need to first take a high-speed train from Urumqi to Yining or Xinyuan (around 4–6 hours). Then on arrival, transfer by car or bus to Nalati Grassland.
By Car: However, if you want to take self-driving tour to Nalati while also take in the views along the road, then be prepared that the full trip will take about 8–9 hours from Urumqi (may be longer depending on the road condition). However, it’s definitely worth a try as the spectacular scenery along the Tianshan Mountains will never disappoint you.
By Air: Even though Yining and Urumqi are both in Xinjiang, you can still take flights to travel between these two places, and a one-way trip can take around 1.5 hours. From the airport, just another ten minutes by car or taxi and you’ll reach the grassland.
