  • In late March, during the spring plowing, you’ll get a chance to shoot the rice terraces and locals engaging in agricultural work. This will enhance the storytelling potential of your photos.
  • Recommended spots to view and shoot sunrise around Duoyishu: Duoyishu Viewing platform (best spot for sunrise), Sisu Viewpoint (lesser known), Azheke Village (shoot terraces and mushroom-shaped dwellings), and the surrounding elevated ridges and high points (less crowded, and more personalized).

Best Time to Visit

November to March of the following year is the time when Duoyishu Rice Terraces offer the most captivating scenes and experiences. During this time, the terraces are filled with water after the harvest. As a consequence, they show more distinct layers under the sunlight. And the overall scenery is more charming as the waters reflect the blue sky and clouds.

The scenery in the early morning is particularly eye-catching, with mist-shrouded rice paddies, and magic play of light and shadow over the terraces.

How to Get to Duoyishu Rice Terraces?

Get to Yuanyang

You can take a long-distance bus from Kunming South Bus Station to Nansha Station or Xinjie Station in Yuanyang. Xinjie Station is closer to Duoyishu than Nansha Station. The bus ride from Kunming to Yuanyang will take about 4-5 hours and cost about CNY 88-107.

Also, you can take a high-speed train from Kunming to Jianshui, Mengzi or Honghe Railway Stations. From each of the stations, there are frequent buses to Yuanyang.

From Yuanyang to Duoyishu Rice Terraces

After arriving at Yuanyang, you can take a local bus that disembark at Duoyishu.

Alternatively, local taxis and minibuses offer carpooling or charter services directly to Duoyishu. You can choose any options upon your preferences. Typically, carpooling from Nansha to Duoyishu costs about CNY 30 per person, and about CNY 15 per person from Xinjie to Duoyishu.
