There are three alleys here, Wide, Narrow, and Well Alley, all preserving late-Qing and early Republican courtyard houses. We were also truly amazed when we first saw how those gray bricks, tiled roofs, and carved doorways survive in the lively modern days.

We found that Wide Alley is more about enjoying traditional local life, while Narrow Alley has better cozy cafés and creative shops, it shines with its artistic vibe. Well Alley is designed to tell Chengdu’s past stories. There’s a famous wall here, which is made of bricks and objects from the old times. We truly suggest visitors take photos of it and share a glimpse of Chengdu’s historic charm.

Jinli Ancient Street runs alongside Wuhou Shrine and both feature the Three Kingdoms heritage. Jinli has many cobblestone lanes that are lined with craft shops and local snack stalls. Dongjiao Memory is built on the former Redlight Electronics Factory site. The industrial elements are preserved, with murals, sculptures, and creative shops making it a more lively place. And among the three, we would recommend you to see Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, since it provides more convenient transports and a better experience of seeing pandas of all ages.

Instead of traveling by car-hailing services or taxi, traveling by official shuttle bus or subway can be more budget-friendly.

1. You can find official shuttle buses run byChengdu Public Transport Group in Chunxi Road, near the IFS center. But be careful that there are also a lot of private buses running in that spot, and we don’t suggest you take any one of them. Only stick to the official bus, and ask security nearby for instruction if needed. This would only take ¥8 for a one-way trip.
