Fujian Transportation: Land, Sea and Air Transportation are Optional

Fujian province is located on the southeast coast of China, facing the island of Taiwan across the Taiwan Strait in the east. Fujian’s coastline is the second longest in China, with many islands and twists along the coast. It can reach South Asia, West Asia and East Africa by sea, which is the starting point of the historical Maritime Silk Road and also the maritime trade and distribution center.

Fujian transportation network is well developed, covering many fields such as air, road, rail and water transportation. In terms of aviation, there are 7 airports in Fujian, including Fuzhou Changle International Airport, Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport and Quanzhou Jinjiang International Airport, Sanmingsha County Airport, as well as Nanping Wuyishan Airport and Longyan Liancheng Airport.

 

Fujian Transportation Overview

In terms of roads, there are 7 national roads in Fujian Province, while there are as many as 17 provincial roads. More than 2,237 kilometers of highways have been built, forming a “four-hour traffic economic circle,” and more highway projects are expected to be under construction in the coming years.

In terms of railway, although the early development was limited, since the 21st century, Fujian has actively promoted the construction of high-speed railways, such as Fuzhou-Xiamen Railway, forming a fast railway ring line between many cities in the province.

In terms of water transportation, the total length of Fujian inland waterways exceeds 3,245 kilometers, with Xiamen Port and other ports ranked among the top in the world, and has trade contacts with more than 70 countries and regions around the world.

 

How to Get to Fujian

By air

‌Fuzhou Changle International Airport not only covers a wide range of domestic routes,‌ also provides convenient connections on international routes, ‌to meet the different needs of passengers. International flights to Fujian include North America, ‌ Southeast Asia, ‌Japan and South Korea and other countries and regions. For international flights, ‌Fuzhou and Osaka ‌operate four round-trip flights a week, and ‌‌Fuzhou-Tokyo flights have been increased from four a week to one a day.

Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport has become an important regional aviation hub on the southeastern coast of China, forming a route network covering major cities in the mainland of China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, and connecting Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Europe, America, and Australia. Currently, Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport has opened 37 international routes, including 20 international cities and 6 regions.

By train

Fuzhou Railway Station and Xiamen Railway Station rank the top two in terms of passenger flow in the province and there are more optional train lines for you. ‌Each of these undertakes railway transportation tasks within the region and connects Fujian province with other cities in the whole country like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Kunming, Nanning, etc.

By ship

Xiamen Port has abundant sea routes, ‌including tourist passenger transport and ‌car and ship services. ‌‌The Maritime Silk Road route‌ has sailed for a total of 10,000 ships, ‌connects 152 ports in 57 countries and regions, and ‌has further expanded international influence of Fujian transportation.‌

Pingtan Port has opened two international cruise routes, namely the round-trip routes of “Xiamen-Philippines-Pingtan” and “Pingtan-Philippines-Xiamen”.

How to Travel around Fujian

There are many ways to travel to Fujian province, ‌and most people use Alipay or WeChat to pay for fares.

By air

Fuzhou Changle International Airport has the largest daily passenger flow in the province. For domestic routes, ‌Fuzhou International Airport serves 106 domestic destinations, ‌‌such as Fuzhou-Beijing 19 times a day, Fuzhou-Xi ‘an 12 times a day, Fuzhou-Chengdu 12 times a day, Fuzhou-Chongqing 12 times a day, Fuzhou-Shanghai 10 times a day, Fuzhou-Kunming 10 times a day, Fuzhou-Guangzhou 7 times a day, Fuzhou-Nanning 6 times a day.

By train 

Fujian has a well-developed railway network. If the air ticket price is a little high for you, consider taking the high-speed train in and out of Fujian.

There are several main railway stations in the province such as Fuzhou Railway Station, Fuzhou South Railway Station, Xiamen Railway Station, Xiamen North Railway Station, Quanzhou Station, which provide convenience for people to transfer between various cities like Fuzhou, Quanzhou, Xiamen, Wuyishan, Longyan, Nanjing (Tulou Clusters), Xiapu, etc.

By car

Taxi service is relatively common in Fujian Province, ‌at the same time, car-hailing services have developed rapidly and ‌provide people with more choices of travel. ‌There are taxi parking areas at major Fujian railway stations, which can enhance the transfer experience for passengers.

By bus

Major bus stations in Fujian include Fuzhou Yongtai Bus Station, ‌Xiamen Hubin South Bus Station, and Wucun Bus Station. The main lines of Fuzhou Yongtai Bus Station include Zhang No.13 Line and several local routes. ‌Zhang No.13 Line has 59 stations in the whole journey, with an interval of 30 minutes. It operates from 6:00 till 18:00. The whole ticket price is 10 yuan, and ‌is charged by sections. ‌

Xiamen Hubin South Bus Station is mainly responsible for the Zhangzhou area, ‌Longyan area and other directions of long-distance passenger buses. ‌Wucun Bus Station is mainly used to transport direct buses in the province ‌and plans to develop bus routes to other areas of the province.

By ship

There are plenty of boat routes in Fujian province, ‌providing tourists with a variety of travel options. You can take the “Haitan No. 1” cruise ship ‌, experience the sea tour route from Pingtan to Putian, and ‌enjoy the scenery of Pingtan Island and ‌ Meizhou Island. ‌For those who wish to explore further out to sea, ‌can take a high-speed ferry directly from Langqi Ferry Terminal to Matu. ‌The journey takes about 80 minutes.

In order to improve the convenience of travel for the elderly, ‌the Fujian provincial Department of transport has launched a series of measures to accommodate the aging, including‌ building urban public tram lines that care for the elderly, ‌updating urban public tram lines with low floors and low entrances, ‌and ‌installing barrier-free shuttle boards for getting on and off of urban rail transit. ‌
