Seat Classes on High-Speed Trains

First class, second class, and business class are the three main seat classes available on China’s high-speed rails. Furthermore, two types of sleepers are presented by some D trains: a soft sleeper and a new soft sleeper.

Like flying business class on an airline, business class seats are the height of luxury and expense. They include power outlets, reclining chairs, personal TVs, and lots of legroom. Depending on the type of train, the seating configuration consists of only three or five seats in a row.

Ascending the ranks, first-class seats offer similar comfort and space at a slightly lower cost. They are delivered in rows of two seats each side of the aisle, arranged in sets of four. These seats have footrests, power outlets, and swivel/adjust capabilities. They also have foldable tables. Additionally, some trains in this category offer headphones and personal TVs.

Second-class seats are the most affordable option and are usually available on China high-speed trains. With three seats on one aisle side and two on the other, the arrangement of five seats in a row includes power outlets, foldable tables, and adjustable seating. It’s similar to airline economy class, but with more legroom.

Some D trains have soft sleepers and new soft sleepers available for longer overnight trips. These offer cozy beds that come with curtains, blankets, and pillows. While new soft sleepers offer two beds, soft sleepers feature four beds in a cabin. Convenient luggage racks, power outlets, and reading lights are features of both varieties.
