So we are already halfway through 2020 (yes, hard to believe). Hope you all stay happy, stay healthy, and stay safe. During this difficult time as the whole world deals with the COVID-19, what things bring you comfort? For many people, food can be a source of comfort. We are curious: which kind of food do you like most? The first thing that comes into your mind when you see this question must be your favorite.
For people like us living in Xi’an, we just can’t get enough Biang Biang noodles, Roujiamo (Chinese hamburger), and Liangpi (cold skin noodles). Most travelers know Xi’an as the home to the famous terracotta warriors, one of the ancient capitals of China, and the starting point of the Great Silk Road, but the city is also a paradise for foodies. Every time we can’t decide what to order for lunch, we just go to a noodle restaurant and leave full and satisfied. Perhaps you still can’t feel our love for the noodles through the computer screen. Just add the noodles to your list if you are planning a trip to Xi’an in the future. You will never forget the haunting flavor once you give it a try.
Given the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s less likely for you to enjoy the tasty noodles in Xi’an now. But people in New York City still have a chance as Woodside location of Xi’an Famous Foods reopened lately (take-out only now to practice social distancing). If you didn’t already know, Xi’an Famous Foods is a family-owned business dedicated to the cuisine of Xi’an. The owner comes from Xi’an. They started the restaurant in the Golden Shopping Mall in Flushing in 2005 as they missed hometown and the foods so much, and then the restaurant became very famous after being featured on the television shows of Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern. Now the father and son have turned the original small restaurant into an empire.
Then what is so unique about Xi’an Famous Foods? They make amazing hand-pulled noodles mixed with their secret yummy spicy sauce consisting of dozens of spices and herbs. If you are a fan of spicy food, you will love Xi’an Famous Foods. They also have great dumplings, burgers, and cold skin noodles.
Here are two important things for you if you want to try the noodles. First, watch out for the sauce. Because the noodles are juicy, try not to briskly slurp down your noodles; otherwise, you will be very likely to get the sauce on your shirt. But you probably cannot help it because the noodles are so delicious. Second, if you don’t like the feeling of a fire burning in your stomach after eating the spicy noodles, be sure to start with regular spicy first or get some cold tea to ease the spiciness.
As Xi’an locals and with our company based in Xi’an, we are very proud of our food and glad that Xi’an Famous Foods has brought them to the United States. Well done! We hope more people can try and like our food. Every bite will bring you warmth and comfort. And what’s more, you can know the city’s culture and people better from the food. You are always welcome to Xi’an. Again, definitely highly strongly recommend trying our noodles if you ever come to Xi’an. Please feel free to contact us if you need any advice on your Xi’an tours.
