Practical Tips for Visiting Zhengzhou
- Best time to visit: For historical and modern sites, seasons would not have that much influence on your experience. But summer can indeed be really crowded and hot. For outdoor activities, Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October)are the best. They offer mild, comfortable weather for climbing and hiking.
- Transportation tips: Most attractions in Zhengzhou downtown area can be easily accessed by metro. For those outside the city area, travel buses are suitable for budget travel, but taxis or DiDi certainly offer more convenience and flexibility.
- Best places to stay: Central areas near Zijingshan or Zhengzhou East Railway Station are ideal.

Q: What to do in Zhengzhou for a day?
A: A one-day trip is only enough for city highlights such as Henan Museum, Erqi Memorial Tower, and Zhengzhou Forest Park, and natural scenery without long-distance travel.
Q: Are Shaolin Temple, Songyang Academy, and Zhongyue Songshan close together? Is one day enough?
A: They are relatively close in Dengfeng, visiting all of them in one day is not recommended.
Mount Song is divided into two main areas: 1)Shaoshi Mountain, where Shaolin Temple sits. 2) Taishi Mountain, the central peak with Zhongyue Temple and other historic sites. So two days are better.
If you only visit Shaolin Temple and the surrounding Shaolin Scenic Area, a full day from Zhengzhou is doable. You can explore the temple, Pagoda Forest, and trails like the Sanhuang Path. But if you want to include Songyang Academy and climb Taishi Mountain to see Zhongyue Temple and the views, it’s better to plan at least two days.
